Syncing Laptop Time to Atomic Time

Instructions from those who maintain the US time reference: http://www.nist.gov/pml/div688/grp40/its.cfm If you're a real time geek then this is interesting reading... http://www.nist.gov/pml/div688/utcnist.cfm

For Intel P55 motherboards 8 Gig performance Ram after rebate $20

Never heard of a "benchmark," eh? Current Raptors are SATA3 devices. Put a pair of SATA3 Raptors in RAID 0 and you going to get write speeds close to 300MB/s, which is damn close to SSD write speeds. A lot more storage at a lot less cost.

For Intel P55 motherboards 8 Gig performance Ram after rebate $20

Not even close. All I did was replace the motherboard, CPU and memory. Wiped and reinstalled the OS disc, good to go. Grand total was about the same price as what it would cost you to replace just the CPU in your P55 with an i7-880 -- about $600.

For Intel P55 motherboards 8 Gig performance Ram after rebate $20

Never mind hallucinating, you're batshit crazy if you think an i7-2600K is only "marginally faster" than a 1155 socket CPU.

For Intel P55 motherboards 8 Gig performance Ram after rebate $20

The P55 is so yesterday. I'm running an i7-2600K w/1600 @ CAS8. Painless overclocking when I need it, intelligent power management scales it back when I'm surfing or doing email.

    local extrema detection

You're right, your second paragraph had already touched on this. I stopped reading once you mentioned smoothing in your first, my apologies.

    KANE TRADING bookset for sale!

Great analogy. However, it doesn't tell us if this system you're selling is actually a Ferrari or just a broken-down Yugo that you bought for the price of a Ferrari. But, you don't have to take our word for it. Put it up on eBay and see what you can get for it.

    local extrema detection

Why stop with just the adjacent bars? If a given high/low is above/below the adjacent bars it is, by definition, a local extrema. If you look at just the immediately adjacent bars the "strength" of your extrema is 1. By extension, an extreme point that's greater than 2 bars on either...

Need advice for new trading laptop

For those that think Sparky is da bomb, my regards. Otherwise, here's a site that takes their time to actually provide some quantitative performance, including system temperature. Here's one review for an HP Pavilion dv6-6008eg (note, it comes with an i7-2630QM)...

Need advice for new trading laptop

Oh, so you're saying I'm wrong? That trading software pushes your system just as hard as an FPS game does? Prove it. Until then, I stand by what I said; you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

Need advice for new trading laptop

Well, there you go, you don't have a clue... The single largest source of heat in any modern desktop or laptop today is the GPU, not the CPU. I don't care what trading software you care to hang your hat on, none of them come close to driving a GPU the way a modern FPS game does. Heat is...

    KANE TRADING bookset for sale!

What you paid is less important than their true value, which doesn't seem to be all that much since you "gave up" on trading.

Need advice for new trading laptop

Mobile parts have minimal heat issues compared to non-mobile parts. If a laptop manufacturer can't adequately cool a 45w mobile processor they're the ones that suck, not the CPU. A Macbook Pro with a 2820M barely gets warm. Same deal with a Lenovo T520 and W520.

Residency and avoiding state income tax

"Connection" being the key issue in this case. As a trader, where you originate your network access into the system will leave a footprint regarding where the majority of your trading occurs. What I don't get is this; why would you ask something like this here when there's nothing illegal...

    Language of the future

The person you replied to stated, correctly, that a natural language cannot be used as a computer language. In regards to Watson, it's not a computer language, and it is considerably different from what you've described: http://www.research.ibm.com/deepqa/faq.shtml

Half The Country's Mortgages Are Underwater

You might not be interested, but as long as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac continue to exist as GSE's and continue to get money from the government you, me and everybody else are already bailing out homeowners, and we all will continue to do it for a long time coming.
