I noticed recently that the margin requirements on my IB IRA account have dropped substantially but I didn't receive any notice about a relaxation in their IRA margin requirements - has anyone else noticed changes? I hold NQ, ES and CL futures positions.

My solution was to simply reduce my trading with IB so that I am never charged the fee.

No trust required - you just open the account with IB like normal but select IRA as the account type, its been so long I don't remember the details but it was straightforward/easy.

Yes, IB allows future trading in IRA account...I've been doing it for years. Regarding margin, futures trading doesn't require a margin account since you don't borrow to trade futures; as long as you meet the initial and maintenance requirements for the contract (which are low) you are fine...

I got this email previously about futures quotes, not sure if you are referring to a different data feed. In general I agree about MB - they are very slow responding to support tickets and they still have problems with quote lag and trade fill reporting sometimes during fast market conditions...

I received the following information from IBCS in response to my inquiry about the lack of details in the calculation of the exposure fee, not sure why this isn't posted on their web site:

If they collect this small fee and do not insure themselves against the risk then they have not accomplished anything. The fee is not high enough to change the minds of most "over exposed" traders. The fee is not high enough to offset the potential huge losses IB would suffer if the market...

I don't think they would try to do direct offsetting positions because that would expose them to regular trading losses. For instance if they were trying to put off black swan risk against my long NQ position they would buy deep out of the money puts on NQ, something that would cover losses...

My question is are they just pocketing these fees or are they actually putting off the risk by using this money to buy some offsetting positions (deep out of the money options, for instance)

I posted the $3.03 fee - I got another bulletin today, based on the numbers they provided it appears the charge is $1 per $100,000 in "excessive exposure" which is the maximum loss (per their calculation) - your available capital. The maximum loss calculation seems to assume a 30% market drop...

Any idea what this means? If a company is bought out or merges with another company is it's lifetime considered over in terms of this statistic? I'm having trouble swallowing this number if end of company life only means company goes under.
