I was out to dinner, I come back futures are up 6, anybody know why?

I do see that move in Hang Seng now. What is funny/sad (depending on how involved in the market you are at a given time) is that we seem to use ANY excuse to go up. But the exact opposite occurrence does not actually bring us down. Merely pauses us at best.

I was out to dinner, I come back futures are up 6, anybody know why?

Was wondering the same thing myself. I do see Euro rallying some and Dollar falling...but commodities don't seem to be going up on this move either (i.e. Copper). Overseas markets don't seem to be up that much either.

    CNBC BUFFETT buying into Goldman

"This news sent S&P futures up 22.50 after hours here, unbelievable news setting up for a huge rally at open tomorrow." Where did this happen? Never mind...just looking at delayed over here, thanks anyways.

    man...gee whezz...relax everyone...Its not like SP will go -60 or DOW -600...RELAX

I don't remember when the last time we opened or even hit a limit, but you should be aware that they changed the limits a few years back, from (I believe) 2.5% to 5%, making a much more rare (if at all) event. -S.C.

    Dumping into close 11-26?

True...but honestly...these days it seems it just takes a little time for all the up moves to fade...and if the futures are up like this at 11 -12 at night, just gives it more time to fade back before the NY open. Besides (not that I am an analyst) but this kind of news is not usually the kind...

    Dumping into close 11-26?

I guess the interesting thing will be to see where the futures are at about 7 -8 AM...b/c one thing i can say is that if we fade this move overnight in the futures...it sure could get ugly quickly.

Are there any stock/equities intraday traders left?

I have to agree with this...been trading since late 99 and this is the first time since 2000 that you have so many stocks that are over 50, 75 and 100+ dollars that are tradeable. I for one hope it lasts a couple of more years at least.

    Lock-Limit Down/Up Days on Charts

I haven't seen a limit down or up in the futures since the wild and fun days of 2000. I am pretty sure that they changed the limits that the markets lock at sometime after that. Believe it used to be 2.5% on the index futures, now it is 5%. Obviously that would make it pretty rare. But...

What happens to a MOC if stop hit in last 10 minutes?

Short it while the market is still open. Then the MOC will flatten you. No? -Sam

    Long straddle

{I think, generally, options start trading in sync with the underlying stock, but in practice it can mean a few minutes delay (in some cases 15 min and more when the stock is excessively volatile). If you want to lock in gains on an options position you can always trade the stock to neutralize...

    Long straddle

Does anyone know if there is any "official" time for options to begin trading each day? I know I have been in options positions and had to sit the first 15 minutes of trading watching a big move in the underlying from the open until there was a B/A for the option?!? Thanks
