    New American Dream is Renting;

    Ok, I agree that if you plan to live somewhere for 1 year then your math and idea is correct, renting beats buying. However most people always need somewhere to live, so if you start to do the math on 5, 10, 15 or 20 years owning kills renting. You also have to factor in that housing isn't going...

    New American Dream is Renting;

    That chart is inflation adjusted, so take out the adjustment and anyone that bought in 1895 and sold in 1942 would have seen the nominal value of their house rise about 10%. Factor in that if that person didn't own a house, they would have been renting all those years and the owner is way ahead...

    New American Dream is Renting;

    I bought a place in Chicago last summer, my mortgage + taxes + insurance + association fees is 30 to 45% below what it would cost to rent my place. Financially, those with good credit and money to put down, buying right now is a no brainer. At least in my opinion 5yr

    Penson

    I don't think Penson is anything like MF Global. At MFG you had a CEO with a huge ego over leveraging the company's balance sheet, when the bet went against him he grabbed what ever money he could to cover margin with the counter-parties. I am 99.9% sure that there is no fraud going on at Penson...

    Why is the T-note yield curve messed up?

    Its small only in nominal numbers, the 30yr is actually yielding 50% more than the 10yr, its a big difference if you look at it that way. 5yr

    Why does California have so much industry/jobs?

    Texas is actually an outlier in the data set, I knew it would come up. But I would bet that it holds true with in Texas too. The nicest areas of Texas, probably have higher taxes rates than the less nice areas near to each other. I would bet money that the Turtle Creek area of Dallas has higher...

    Why does California have so much industry/jobs?

    My guess is that your assumptions about what makes an economy strong are completely wrong. Hypothesis: "horrible high taxes, huge nanny state" = no industry Test: Towns with the highest tax rates, typically the most affluent. States with the highest tax rates also the ones with the biggest...

    Why would someone buy deep in the money call on dividend stock?

    The lack of response from the OP leads me to believe that he did, in fact, sell it for 12.30 and answered his own question. LOL 5yr

    Hey, Just want to point out that $3 + 12.30 = $15.30. I will take that trade all day long. Thanks 5yr

    Socialism nearly killed the Pilgrims...but it produces great places to live

    What exactly is a "nig nog?" You asked this: "By what right do you hold a nation collectively responsible for the deeds of their ancestors?" And went on to illustrate that he is exactly right when you typed the paragraph above. 5yr

    Secret Fed Loans Gave Banks Undisclosed $13 Billion

    Isn't that exactly what the Fed is supposed to do? Be the lender of last resort? Are people really shocked that they loaned unprecedented amount of money in the middle of the biggest financial crisis since the depression? The title makes it seem nefarious, but if they didn't loan the money...

    Should they just have printed debt free money?

    No, there would have been 0 debt if the government just printed off all the money it required. I would bet that the spending would have been much higher if the government could just print off whatever money it "required" rather than relying on the debt markets to loan it the money it...

    As Eurozone crumbles, Krugman panics.

    This is kinda of crazy, the "right wing" in sweden is left of Obama. the Swedish government currently taxes 53% of the GDP, by far the highest among any first world government. (According to the world fact book posted by Nitro) 5yr

    Sure buddy, you have man boobs, are way to fat for being 28 and typed this from your mom's basement while shoving microwaved fried food smothered in cheese in your mouth. In between bites you wiped your greasy fingers on your dirty t-shirt so you wouldn't get the keys any dirtier than they...
