Diary of an LSE stock trader

Hi Mo06 I'm in the UK but I'd never really thought about trading shares here. Are you using CFDs, spreads or what? And what's your basic approach, fundamental or technical? Thanks

    Trading strategies bloggers/authors/professors

Acrary posted a divergence system on here that I was able to adapt and trade successfully for a few years. Mark Johnson (not sure if he posted here though) made some very useful contributions to my trend following systems. NoDoji's method of going through a chart by hand and logging the results...

Diary of an LSE stock trader

Mo, I'd always thought that the spreads would be too steep to make daytrading UK stocks profitable, but this is obviously not the case. Could you post a few screenshots of your trades, Thanks.

which backtesting platform i can trust

If you want to test systems at the portfolio level then I would recommend Mechanica. I've been using it successfully for 7 or 8 years now. Very flexible and solid piece of software. http://mechanicasoftware.com/ I have no affiliation with them.

If you mean Mechanica I've found it to be excellent. Only EOD though.

    Looking for a mentor

I'd just like to weigh in to support what NoDoji has said. Firstly, there's no need to blow out a few accounts in order to be profitable. I started trading 12 years ago using the Aberration system and was profitable pretty much from the off. This I put down to the fact that in those days...

Trend Following - Starting with $30,000

Has any backtesting gone into this method and if so what were the results? Even if the method is sound the results are surely too volatile to make a living from.

Can a mechanical trading sys eliminate stress?

In my experience it's not having an automated or mechanical system that reduces stress, it's having a method you believe in. This is what allows you to take the losing streaks without second guessing yourself. It also means you extract the most from the winners. To develop belief in a system...

Questions about trend following system from intermediate beginner

I would say choose the slower system. In my experience it is more likely to be robust. Then concentrate on developing other shorter term uncorrelated systems rather than continually tweaking your existing ones. For example I trade one very long term trend following system, one medium term trend...

    Munehisa Homma

I've come across a couple of references to Munehisa Homma and his book "The Fountain of Gold – The Three Monkey Record of Money". He was an eighteenth century rice trader and reputedly the inventor of candlestick charts. Does anyone know if this was ever translated into English? It looks...

    Backtesting Platforms - Tradersstudio

I've been using Mechanica standard edition since it's release and before that it's predecessor, Trading Recipes. I've found it to be an excellent tool. The current beta release allows testing of mean variance optimisation if that's your thing. Is there anything in particular you're interested...

flat days on long term trend following systems

From my experience: 1. There are much better methods than the Turtles'. Try moving average crossovers for a start. 2. Adding extra systems helps but to be really effective they have to be based on different methods of entry and exits. Try a shorter term system that exits on a profit target...

    New Steenbarger book out

I find his work interesting and often visit his traderfeed blog. However I've yet to see him post his own trading results. Someone who does and who I (as a systematic trader) find much more useful is his friend Henry Carstens of Vertical Solutions.

    'Idiot-Savant' Traders?

I scored 30 and I'm an INTJ Good news for me as for years I've been telling my wife I'm borderline Asperger's Syndrome. She however has always maintained that whilst I have the social skills of an Aperger's I am otherwise a fuckwit. By the way, are we aware that this test was devised by...
