    When a model becomes extinct

I see correlations on Price charts, seem so simple, then I struggle to define them or their components mathematically. That has resulted in a collection of TAs and custom indicators that I can individually click on/off, to include/exclude in the automatic trading decision, as the current flavour...

Thoughts on ultra wide (34" up to 49") screens vs multi-monitors

So much depends on how the info you'll be looking is displayed and at what size. For your eyes and viewing distance, what Final Size do you need. And how much info do you want/need to have instantly available without having to open or bring forward the correct window for viewing. There are some...

Weird about doing TA prior to trading.

etrades, Another way to look at things, is all of the policies, news, moves, manipulations, sentiment, etc. is summarized in one place: the price. That simplifies it too much, but TA is what provides analysis of the net result of all the influences. Fundamentals and the situation may be...

Weird about doing TA prior to trading.

"The smarter you are, the longer it takes", also presents as you're not content accepting something at face value: you need to understand it.

is ECC memory necessary for quantitative trading?

What are the specs of the box you're running your algo on now? How long is it taking to process a new 1 min data tick? How many cores does the CPU have, and does it have hyper-threading? How many cores are actually running when you're running your algo? Are cores shutting down and restarting...

thinkorswim laggy on my PC. Time for an upgrade?

p.s. If your lag is meaningfully contributed to by the CPU getting scaled back, getting a faster computer means that the work load appears to be even less to the more powerful computer. It too will scale back CPU speed and cores, and perhaps even more than the old computer. The lag could...

thinkorswim laggy on my PC. Time for an upgrade?

I'm late to this thread, but... In that post with the three screenshots, it shows a rather trivial CPU usage. Not one core pinned. Not even one of the cores is meaningfully above 50%. Barely any load on four cores. Almost like hyper threading is off. That doesn't make good use of the 'spare'...

What information does Technical analysis tell you ?

I don't buy that the market moves randomly. But in the past decade or two, there have been more and more factors that can and do influence market moves, and the digital world means they come into play significantly faster than in past times. I believe there are so many, that it is valid to say...

What information does Technical analysis tell you ?

This is very interesting. I'm going to have to spend some time on it to understand fully. I think I do something similar to "If a trader doesn’t have a working understanding of price action and market structure, they won’t be able to identify the market conditions to avoid taking trade signals...

Dell just put out a mammoth 43-inch monitor for traders — and we tried it

p.s. I find I tend to use the left half to 2/3 of the 55" 4k as a 'centre monitor' for the most important info. My chair is positioned roughly 1/3 of the way in from the left. Its right side is used like a 'wing' for secondary/supporting info. Tertiary goes on the 28" on the left.

Dell just put out a mammoth 43-inch monitor for traders — and we tried it

I hate to say it after your comment, but there seems to be something almost magical about having a centre monitor. Perhaps as simple as you're facing and looking straight ahead for the majority of your work, and without a bezel in its middle. We're very good at assembling split images, but if...

Dell just put out a mammoth 43-inch monitor for traders — and we tried it

As you intuit, 4K def on the same size monitor(s) you had before is of very limited benefit (unless you had really crappy monitors; and Dell Ultrasharps are pretty sweet - there's a reason they turn up in a lot of photo/video editing setups). 4K is simply a way of reducing multiple pieces of...

    4k monitors and scaling

Here's what I replaced my 5-up with (had a 6-up layout that only had 5 monitors). https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/single-large-monitor-practical.307614/page-4#post-4848393 55" 4K to replace 4-up monitors all the way! Kept a 1920x1200 on the side. Info is already up when you need it. When...

Dell just put out a mammoth 43-inch monitor for traders — and we tried it

Not on the 55" 4K TV I've been using since late 2015. Get one where you can turn the Video/Motion enhancement and sharpening off. I treat the 4K as a four-up sized monitor. A lot of pixel real-estate for info display. The only down side is I keep using it for working on my high-res photo...

    Newegg

Over time, keep your eye on the price and availability of the faster/more-cores CPUs that will run on that MB. Pick one up while they're available but newer product has resulted a price drop. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B450-F-GAMING/HelpDesk_CPU/ It's currently showing good...

What information does Technical analysis tell you ?

But shouldn't one be removing "belief" from consideration? Combine multiple methods by doing each independently, then seeing when they align or contradict, and learn how to apply a weight to each to learn how to make/develop an informed judgment call? (now code that... lol)

Trying to figure out best order type to use on IB

I believe the point is that you need to watch the depth for some time to get a feel for the behaviour of each individual security you're considering trading. Lets you see the spread, depth and what kind of moves/games they're playing with the book and how they present. Even if you lack the...

    High-end PC for Trading

    > This is overkill most of the time anyway. Often, but it depends on the time resolution one is trading at. > I am out of my mind why people buy so much powerful machines Because there's a belief that the latest & greatest will be faster and faster is needed. It doesn't help that perception...
