Short Stock Borrowing Costs

A sincere thank-you to everyone who's posted the very useful information and links here (all of which I've followed up and read)!

    Short Stock Borrowing Costs

Doublet83, thanks for that additional information. Now, here's a question that may be difficult to answer, but: Do you (or anyone) happen to know what criteria are used to place a security on a 'hard to borrow' list, or do the criteria vary from broker to broker? Searching my own broker's...

    Short Stock Borrowing Costs

Swan Noir (great name, btw!), thank you very much for explaining this subject so clearly. I really appreciate your time in writing such a detailed and useful reply! It's extremely useful to me. Thanks again!

    Short Stock Borrowing Costs

I apologize in advance for what is probably a very simple question, but: Can anyone outline the costs involved in borrowing stock (ie, to enter a short position) on margin using a plain old Reg-T margin account? Obviously there's the margin interest rate, but is there also a separate...

Short Stock 'Buy-Ins' and Other Questions

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but just a couple of questions: I'm interested to know under what circumstances a 'forced buy in/buy to cover' situation typically occurs when one holds a short stock position. 1) Ie, do such buy-in demands usually occur during advances in...

    General Margin Questions

Hi All, I'm relatively new to options and have been reading the various 'Options' threads with great interest. Amongst other things, I've learned that a vertical debit spread can bring with it the risk of a margin call should the short side temporarily be more valuable than the long...

    Portfolio Management Question

I'm curious as to whether any software package offers the following: The ability to specifiy a given portfolio value, and to specify that ALL positions should be closed if the portfolio's value then drops, say, X percent below the specified value. I know that one can (of course) set stops...

    Licensure Requirements

I've been trading my own account on and off for several years ; now I'm interested in at least exploring the possibility of going 'professional', ie being able to accept other people's money. If I want to trade (equities only) solo, not as the employee of another firm, what licenses will I...

    Seeking a Developer

Holy snacks, nononsense! Why so hostile? For one thing, you've misunderstood what I'm asking for--most definitely NOT a 'black box' or a 'money maker', but a backtester. This is a very common feature of many trading applications; it's merely that I want some functionality not found all that...

Has anyone tried CQGs backtesting capabilities

My partner and I tried CQG's backtester last week. In a word, it's horrendous. We found, amongst other things, that: 1) Such items as 'trailing stops' are 'very difficult to program' (a paraphrase of an actual CQG developer); 2) A colleague of ours who'd been using CQG for years is...

    Seeking a Developer

I'm seeking an experienced developer to code two related projects: 1) a backtester which can accept different parameters (ie, stop types and levels, and parameters for different technical studies), the interate through a range of values for each parameter, testing each in combination with...

    CQG Consulting

I've just started using CQG Net; I'd like to either get some professional help (!) or see if anyone here has familiarity with the product and would be able to help with some simple system design questions.... Let me know if you're familiar with this product, and I'll ask away! Thanks....

    Orderly Stock Price Changes

I guess what I'm describing is 'noise'--the random price swings within a 5 minute bar that tend to obscure the overall trend across several bars (if there is one), and which tend to give 'fake-out' signals to get in, or just as bad, trip off a stop, only to then see the price move on up (or...

    Orderly Stock Price Changes

I'm trying to find securities which generally exhibit 'smooth', 'orderly' price change intraday. The ideal would be a stock whose typical 5 minute bar shows a fairly small range, and whose daily range tends to be one percent or more. I know that's quite vague: I guess I'm looking for securities...

    Wizetrade...these audio/videos say it all ;-)

Yeah, fancy that: publicly available, free indicators that emulate WT. Astounding! :D

    Wizetrade...these audio/videos say it all ;-)

A friend of mine figured out how to get a remarkably similar 'green/red line display. Plot an EMA on bar highs, another on bar lows, and away you go. WT has some smoothing in it, but so what? So, whether this is the 'algorithm' (fancy word, eh?) that GT uses, one can get a pretty close...

    Wizetrade...these audio/videos say it all ;-)

Glad to hear it. BTW, to come up with much the same display--for free, not for $2500--that WT uses, plot an EMA on a bar's high, and a second one on its low. A bit of smoothing thrown in, and voila! Let me know what you see. EMAs are 'free', by the way. Even my kid brother can plot 'em...

    Wizetrade...these audio/videos say it all ;-)

Such a bargain! I'm sure you're happy you've helped by George Thompson's next yacht. Say, I wonder how many institutional players use this amazing, remarkable, totally unique product for their own trades?
