Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Risk is ever present. You can't possibly know for certain that a future target price will occur before a large drawdown, and possibly unsustainable too unless you have deep pockets. Even if price does come back, riding out a large draw down has an opportunity cost.

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Sounds like spotting an opportunity and then getting the timing right, but apparently opportunity isn't it from what was previously said.

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

I rather thought that the pre-requisite was *opportunity* and that everything else was an ellaboration on that.

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

    The question was rhetorical!

What could OP mean? Surely OPportunity, theres no need to complicate things!

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Or even wait until Jul 6th and open a short prior to the 10am (NY time) ISM Services PMI report, which according to the calendar that I look at was flagged as a high impact event https://www.forexfactory.com/calendar On the other hand if the reported value had been >64 then price may well have...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Congratulations Some obvious points: wait for an opportunity, no pain no gain, don't paint yourself into a corner - leave room to manoeuvre, be prepared to trade the bounce

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

So for your current trade this begs the obvious question: "Why is The Obvious Not So Obvious" In a failing trade one way of trying to gain is to increase postion size to put the break even price within the likely price range for the near future. Doing that repeatedly though can eventually...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

You have indeed provided insights and sufficient explanations for how to trade the MES. In fact you have given something not asked for, because many who visit this thread are fixated on finding the holy grail 'obvious' and seek certainty of knowing. Discarding the habits and baggage acquired in...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Thats highly unlikely, but any form of trading from price charts is generally based on trying to recognise opportunies from combinations of bars in the context of upcoming events that may cause price to move significantly. For example the 'step response' shape in the box often occurs, with an...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

I prefer indices rather than FX. For the broker that I use FXCM and their GER30, SPX500 and US30 are all good and have strong moves. The GER30 is based on the DAX index future and is nice for trading UK am. From UK midday onwards either SPX500 based on E-mini S&P500 future or US30 based on...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Mach4-1 abbreviated? For (#7296) "the horizontal line drawn on the chart..not the last price line", I presume that you mean the price at NY market open and not the day session open price? In your answer (#7302) to Onra you say that the 'small box' has a narrow time range with the line in the...

Does anyone change their moving average period based on volatility?

Jurik Moving Average, but despite the hype I wasn't impressed when I looked into it, the guy is essentially a vendor selling a blackbox without revealing the code: http://www.jurikres.com/catalog1/ms_ama.htm The code is supposed to be something along these lines, which is not well explained...

Reversion to the mean only trading...

You've hit the nail on the head there, which mean indeed? The answer is that the term "mean reversion" is used very sloppily when the correct concept should be "median reversion". Its so easy to use an indicator to plot a mean of price but then there is the choice of which mean to use and the...

    Daily loss limit

Losing everything in a single losing trade should never happen under normal circumstances. Surely before placing a trade, the maximum loss permitted per trade and stop placement will determine the trade size. I always use a % daily loss limit which is obviously larger than a trade % loss...

Do you use Trailing stops, hard stops or both?

For auto day trading: always a hard stop defined at entry, and trailing stops which are essentially take profit conditions for 25% retracement if large move occurs, or exit at 2 bar low if profit is sufficient, also a time stop by manual exit - don't let the last trade persist for too long if...
