Every time I hear people claim you do nothing but lose in trading......

trading successfully is not as difficult as it may seem. it just depends on what one defines as being successful. and on that note, i'll add that i am a successful trader and find it to be rather easy and extremely boring.

The one thing I never understood...

bingo. everything you need is right there in pneuma's post. read it carefully. there are really only three market conditions at any given time. learn them, trade them all, and trade small. the frequent trading will compound your account quickly with very little drawdown.

Hedge Fund Hell: Arbitrage in Financials Backfires

to my understanding, and i may be wrong here, we have quarterly lock-up periods with a month in advance notice. despite our strong returns, we are still seeing redemptions from fofs who have capital locked up in other funds.

Hedge Fund Hell: Arbitrage in Financials Backfires

i must say, that is very impressive. i'm guessing you either trade a short-term (high frequency?) or trend-following strategy? i trade at a multi-billion dollar fund and we had our best year last year as well...but our 40% return pales in comparison to your monster 65%. hope you keep up...

hmm... i can see that you haven't been employed at a hedge fund and yet seem to think you know so much about them. and what is this "myth" about hedge funds? ...that you can't make some serious buck working at one? - you can. ...that they use you to pilfer your ideas? - you're not that...

Daytrading leads to Inevitable Failure? Is Swing Trading the only Viable Path?

+1 by the time i'm out at dinner, i don't even remember whether i ended the day up or down, let alone how much. all i know is that the omakase dinner at masa is going down quite nicely (as it always does) and that i'll be paying with my black amex. the key is to trade small enough to not...

If you are employed full-time, when do you spend time working on your system?

i feel your pain. since my work days are pretty grueling (12-14 hrs on average) i usually set aside large chunks of the weekends for most of my personal work. sure, i get sidetracked with friends visiting the city or the frequent work events every now and then but as long as you stay focused...
