Getting VX settlement prices as soon as they're calculated?

There is no settlement process at market close. VIX options and VX futures settle on Wednesday mornings, typically within 2-5 minutes of market open. Final settlement price is determined by ticker VRO.

How big can you size and still fly under the radar?

Why in the world would you use XSP vs 150 contracts in SPX?

    Interest earned on Premium Sold?

That is up to you. The $750 would go to your account's cash balance, and you can use it however you wish (i.e., leave it in cash and earn the interest rate your broker pays, use it to buy T-Bills, or you could even use it to buy stock).

Awesome! Tradingview looks pretty good. Just got to learn how to use it haha

    Performance Comparison Chart - Ideas?

Total return is the price return plus dividend reinvested. Helps compare apples to apples, otherwise a price return only will favor securities with no dividend.

    Performance Comparison Chart - Ideas?

Looks like the Seeking Alpha one is pretty darn close to what I'm looking for. Thanks!

    Performance Comparison Chart - Ideas?

I'm looking for a tool or website that makes it easy to compare the total return of multiples funds (ETFs, mutual funds, or normal equities). I am used to using a Bloomberg terminal, but am losing my access at the end of the month. I tried Yahoo & Google finance, but have some issues. Those...

    Cash proceeds from option writing

Yeah, bizarre the rep isn't able to answer the question! Shouldn't be that complex... You might just have to do a small trade and find out :)

    Cash proceeds from option writing

@cruisecontrol I use TD Ameritrade / ThinkorSwim. When you sell an option, the cash feeds directly into your account's cash balance. But you have to post collateral / margin to keep the trade open. The broker will accept cash or securities to collateralize your short options trade (which is...

Long Put deep ITM at expiration

This happened to me years ago in my IRA account. Was long a put that I thought expired OTM (but the buyer exercised after hours on Friday cause the stock dipped below the strike...). On Monday morning I had a decently large short stock position in my Roth (whoops!). The broker called and...

Are there Pros and Cons to trading SPX options instead of SPY?

SPX: Treated as 1256 contracts, so taxed at 60% long term cap gains rate, 40% short term 10x larger, which may be good or bad, but generally lower transaction costs (as you don't trade as many units) European option, so only exercisable at expiration More expiration cycle Contrary to some...

Is 100 a good enter point for TLT ?

I basically just regressed the TLT closing price by the 30 year treasury rate (ticker: TYX). So it's an estimate but it's close.

Is 100 a good enter point for TLT ?

$100 is certainly a good price. I've been selling laddered puts across the board at the $90, 95, and 100 strikes. This is all a play on rates. At $100, the 30 year Treasury yields ~4%. Around $85 the yield hits 5%. We will enter recession before yields hit 5%, in which case long duration...

IRS Tax Implication - Exercise ITM Calls

Hopefully someone here knows the answer... Say a stock is trading at $100, and I buy a call option with strike of $20 (let's pretend the premium was $81) and I immediately exercise with the intention to hold stock long term. Which of these scenarios is most accurate from a tax perspective...

    Instatraders BBC Documentary

It's both amazing and sad people will spend $1,000's on scammy subscriptions based on flashy marketing... Or that the narrator was trading with $100 in capital (after spending ~$400 on education LOL). Would be so much better off creating a free brokerage account and doing it like the rest of us...

Entered my first Long Call but Breakeven doesn't match with Market Value

Cause you bought something and it went up in value :) The breakeven price only matters if you hold till expiration. The option price (and corresponding PnL) will move throughout the day with changes in volatility, the underlying's price, and time to expiry.

    Margin on Futures Options

Futures & futures options use “SPAN” margining. Don’t know the acronym but it’s essentially a risk based margining system that’s far more generous requirements compared with equities. Honestly, best way to get a feel for it is to trade it. In answer to your question though, if you buy a debit...

    SPX AM settlement risk

Majority of SPX expirations are PM settled based on final closing price on SPX. The AM options are the exception with those expirations being the 3rd Friday of the month; there is also a PM expiration same day. The AM options settle based on the official rate (ticker: SET), which is now...

VIX Futures - Anomaly in Oct '20 Contract Price?

Ha! Yes, I'm very aware of the timing of the elections, which obviously occurs between the Oct & Nov contract expirations. What I'm struggling to understand is why the relationship between the two contracts has broken down. For example, if the argument is October's contract is highly priced...

VIX Futures - Anomaly in Oct '20 Contract Price?

I've traded various volatility related products for several years, and follow the VIX curve closely. I've noticed the October 2020 is priced much higher than the surrounding contracts (i.e. Sept or Nov contracts). From a historical perspective, the spread between a long dated VIX contract and...
