to those that bought the spike today

I must defend dphoenix. I do not always agree with what he says, but I think that his criticism is healthy and to the point more often than not. You started really nicely on this board and I do hope that you will not turn into yet another grouppie because that would be really sad. Plus, we have...

Can an average guy make a living at trading?

Very good piece of advice, learn by observing and being very critical about what you read anywhere, particularly on this board. Most is a total crap, otherwise it would not be posted here, always question it, in fact always question everything, and that includes your own setups too. Only this...

to those that bought the spike today

Opportunity at 980? Based on what? What are your criteria for an entry? At 975 you had S2, if you know what I mean and a nice stochastics divergence to boot. Well, at least you had something to rely on, but at 980? Also, it's always safer to buy when the price is starting to move up as opposed...

A beginner needs help with TS 2000i

I appreciate your response. What this tells me is that indeed this is not as straightforward as I thought it should be otherwise you could just give me straight instructions. Thanks for this, though.

A beginner needs help with TS 2000i

Well, I bought TS 2000i just two days ago. I hooked it up via Metaserver to IB's data feed. Now, that was the easy part. The tough part is to get any charts out of the data that I have collected. The data was for ES. I would appreciate if someone could give me instructions on how to create a...

    Chronicles of an Idiot

This does answer my question and confirms what I was saying, namely that the divergence in the stochastics is not that critical because if you were to stick to it, you would throw out the elbows as they are not proper divergences. It's good that you know that, but actually my point is that...

    Strategy Runner

can probably do the same as SR, and for free. You need TS though, at this you can get for less than $350 from a source known to yours truly. Not that I am affiliated with them. Anyway, can SR run several systems at once, some of which can have opposite positions? This is rather impossible...

results of my paper backtest on NQ breakout system

Your testing period does not even span 2 months altogether. That's not enough to draw any meaningful conclusions about the system performance. Get at least 2 years of data and see what you get then. Then come back and tell us how your system did.

    Chronicles of an Idiot

OK, I could spot it on the next chart, but I am still curious about the first one. Different timeframe? Yeah, that was a 3 min chart. Now, I got it... So the reason you did not take that trade was because you could not see any divergence on the 3 min chart? Well, that can limit the number...

    Chronicles of an Idiot

Sorry, but where is any divergence in that chart? I got it on mine at that time in both MACD and stochastics, but cannot see it in yours. Why?

    Moving average winner

So the system did have a drawdown of almost 50% at some point (the big drop from 400 to 200), which is to be expected for a simple system like that. I prefer systems with drawdowns below 30%.

    Moving average winner

The only too good a thing about it is the drawdown. Looks too low to me, perhaps you should test it again on a larger sample, say 2-3 years of data to get a better idea of how the system really performs. However, I do agree that MAs systems can be profitable, except that because of their...

Brilliant! This is how it is done.

In fact, I thought it was known more widely. Of course, Saddam has never been a Muslim fundamentalist and so his alleged alliance with the people behind the 9/11 attacks was very dubious from the very start. And nothing was proved to him neither then or now.

What exactly are your entry and exit rules at this point. I guess they have been evolving as you have been writing this journal. Have you summarized them here yet or not? Are your results actual, simulated or papertraded only? Thanks and keep it up.
