Trading with a Stop Loss in the Futures Market is for Losers

Well, I feel no pity for traders that put absolute stop losses instead of relative ones, as these are surely gonna be eaten by almost equally simple predatory traders.
  2. Q

$500+ a day trading index futures, possible?

To achieve $500 per day on average, day in and day out, on one contract, sounds overly optimistic. To do it occasionally is not a feat. On the contrary, it's very easy to lose the same amount if not cautious...

Any good structure for a simple self-made backtesting platform?

No curve fitting is taking place.

Excel and FIX for algo autotrading

I can't imagine trading algos using Excel besides for very very simple ones.

Any good structure for a simple self-made backtesting platform?

Not sure whether I fall into this category, but if my back testing is half as good in reality (see 2008-2009 performance attached), and if my system continues equally well as in the past, I'd me more than happy. The only thing I know though, is that I won't fall victim to my own psychology.

I use stops, I'm small, but still made $170 today - how come???

Any good structure for a simple self-made backtesting platform?

Isn't that what distinguishes the geniuses from the less intelligent? That some actually learn and develop! It doesn't matter if you're a complete novice today if you can be a master tomorrow. I myself didn't know a shit two years ago and now I return 300%+ per year with 10 clients. Unless you...

How did you grow your account into a big one?

Couldn't have said it better. Weightlifting would do as physical exercise too though.

  14. Q

    Who exactly is buying?

This rally is sick, and not sustainable in the long term. I expect a pull-back of at least 10% from today's levels before the end of the year!
  15. Q

Trading with a Stop Loss in the Futures Market is for Losers

Sure, if you have a one- or two-tick stop you're surely gonna get stopped out, but then you're a fool in the first place, even in absence of HFTs. So if I have a, say 20-tick stop, can you explain to me exactly how one single HFT player can possibly move ES that much? I'm very curious to...

    HFT Myths

Can't imagine that's a very critical factor - you obviously need a line of sight, and humidity etc. can influence attenuation, but we're talking about microwaves here and not visible light...
  18. Q

    HFT Myths

Maybe a silly question, but why would microwave links be more expensive than say, a fiber-optic cable, which has to be dug into the ground? Somehow it feels like this infrastructure thingy is sort of a "re-discovered novelty" and hence overpriced...?
  19. Q

Any good structure for a simple self-made backtesting platform?

Are the results generated from live data or from back tests on historical data? Would be interesting if you could customize the indicators/strategies fully, as the "classic" TA indicators are not very effective these days...
  20. Q

Any good structure for a simple self-made backtesting platform?

Question: Where do you get the tick data from? Nanex? Which database are you using at the moment? How do you rate MS SQL vs. MySQL?
