Fed Losing $200 Billion On Treasury Holdings

Very well, if you say so... No, shirley, you must be joking? Bush, not in the White House? I had no idea... And no, I didn't say that Bernanke is a puppet on a string dangled by Bush.

The Fed is getting destroyed...massive bond losses

Huh? What losses? This is very disappointing, Maverick... It's, quite obviously, impossible for the Fed to actually lose money, unless they specifically decide to do so. Even then, such losses would be irrelevant.

Fed Losing $200 Billion On Treasury Holdings

Bernanke is an Obama Pawn? How do you figure that? He was nominated by George W Bush and Obama "fired" him this year... Surely, he's much more of a Bush Pawn, if anything.

IRR (or not) question - Need math understanding! :)

+1, they're not necessarily the same thing. However, for discrete intervals which aren't too long (1 year, say) I don't think the difference between the two methods will be large (obv, also depends on other factors). I don't, however, understand why it's IRR "from inception", rather than for...

Who would've thought a country of atheists has more morals (and balls) than us?

Nah, it was Uncle Joe, actually... Initially, homosexuality was decriminalised when the Bolsheviks came to power in 1917. But in 1933, after Stalin consolidated his hold on power, he went after the sexual minorities with great vigor. It's not entirely clear what the reasons were (probably a...

Fed to transfer $140 billion in remittances to Treasury

You're confounding a great many things here. Yes, real rates have been negative for a while, as the first link mentions. On the other hand, nominal short rate (FedFunds target), which the second link talks about, is not negative and isn't going to go negative.

Who would've thought a country of atheists has more morals (and balls) than us?

peil, just out of curiosity, do you have any idea where the origins of Russia's attitude to sexual minorities lie?

Fed to transfer $140 billion in remittances to Treasury

Yes, I know real rates are negative and you don't need inflation of 6% for that. There was no mention of anything "real" in either the post or the link.

Anybody else short US 30 Bond

Not exactly, because your sure capital gains on redemption have to be discounted. Moreover, a TIPS doesn't really "revalue itself". It just pays you a coupon calculated using a notional that is multiplied by a measure of how much inflation has been accrued (index ratio). The point is that a...

The Government "Revises" 84 Years Of Economic History This Week

OKI, no problem, if you guts say so... I don't live in the US, so I don't have any direct ongoing experience. All I have are the impressions I get when I visit periodically.

    Global Macro Volatility Arbitrage Strategy

Trading global macro with an account that can't handle o/n swings in stuff like oil is doomed to fail, options or no options. Global macro requires deep pockets (relative to size of risk).

The Government "Revises" 84 Years Of Economic History This Week

On the subject of Snickers, I have seen this, which is saying that the regular bar will be "downsized" for the first time at the end of this year: http://www.esquire.com/blogs/food-for-men/snickers-smaller-6655856 The other version has been replaced with the 2 pack of smaller bars and this...

Is that actually true? Is there any evidence for this? Personally, I think he's 100% crank, but I am willing to concede I am wrong, if there's sufficient proof.

    Are People Getting Fed Up?

Yep, it's a unique feature of American politics. And yes, I think the media are definitely in on it in a big way, but, to paraphrase, people get the media they deserve.

    Atheism In Decline

I see... And, obviously, I am the one being wrong and ignorant here, because ... it's just so obvious? And no, my argument is not weaker, as I am not the one making a categorical statement. It's just simple logic, although I guess when one is just "wrong", like me, logic isn't really relevant.
