The cause of a move like that is resting stops. Leveraged traderz must use close stops and strong traders prey on them....

State of the Gold trend & range: reverting, but still down. Surf, look at those ma's. Do you notice how price has bounced off a particular one, several times? Can you see how fading this range in the direction of the trend, using that ma, would allow you to engage your price drives...

This has also been my experience with hourly bar strats - they needed about 5 years of data to be robust in the forward test.

I think Surf has a point - that lots of small trades capture less than just one long term move, and that allowing oneself to get shaken out will virtually guarantee losses. If one goes with the long term trend & fundamentals, and fades the range for entry / exit, I think it can work. One...
