    I love my 3D laptop

I think 3D has its merits in visualization. If the 3D screen is combined with virtual reality technologies (data gloves or some 3D input devices) to let users interactively query the data for more details, it can be wonderful. But making a 2D chart looks 3D by adding shadow or creating an...

buying a computer for day trading

Everyone's situation is a bit different. I think the best is you monitor your own CPU and memory usage. Start the task manager and go to the "Performance" tab. You will see something like this: (Your P4 will not show 8 windows on the CPU usage, only 1). During the heaviest moment of your...

    Safely Remove Hardware Icon

I don't believe you need do a "remove device" on all non storage related peripherals. e.g. keyboard, mouse, printer. They don't have any storage capacity for any data. You just unplug your USB keyboard, mouse, printer. It's not gonna hurt your keyboard/mouse/printer a bit. It's the data...

What version of Windows are you running? Did you have any removing device plugged in to the USB? (What kind of device?)

buying a computer for day trading

The i7-930 processor (passmark score 5830) or i7-950 (passmark score 6273) processor are pretty "enormous" for retail traders. Cost under $300. (The chip itself) If this is not "enormous" enough, may be i7-980X (passmark score 10326), almost twice the speed of 930/950. Cost about $1000...

buying a computer for day trading

Here is what I posted in another thread. Cross-posting here. Visit your local computer shop like Fry's or something. Look around. Many makes/models to chooce from. The prices are competitive. The key factors of the pricing are: 1) The processor used (from not so fast to really fast)...

Windows 7, Intel i7 Chip Combo

My last 2 boxes were based on Athlon 64 X2 (B) 4800+ 2.5 GHz (65W) chip. I built 2 new boxes based on i7-930 Windows 7 in April. Big difference. About 5 times faster. I developed some custom indicators that sent the old boxes to a crawl during the first few minutes when the market opens...

first basic home trade station questions

I can tell you what I use: When I built my 2 boxes, I picked up ASUS P6T motherboard. It's a very nice board. 3 x PCIeX16, 2 x PCI and 1 x PCIeX8 (x8 I think). The only thing that I regret is: I drive 6 monitors with it. Can't get my PCI based dual card to work in this configuration (with...

Anyone has more than two computers?

Having multiple monitors and multi-tasking are two different things. Having multiple monitors just mean more information are presented to you via more screen space. It is up to you how/when to observe and process the information. An analogy is driving a car... you look at the road ahead...

buying a computer for day trading

This is like asking: What car should I buy? I want to look for a car with an engine that deliver "enormous" amount of power. Your definition of "enormous" maybe different from others'. Would an i7 quad core processor (with Passmark score >5000) be fast enough for you?

video card for Eight 22" monitors

They are the same. Both are digital. The resolution for the image quality is defined by your video card - under your control in Window's control panel. (e.g. 1920 x 1080, or 1280 x 1024, etc.) Doesn't matter whether the signal goes through the HDMI cable or the DVI cable.

video card for Eight 22" monitors

HDMI is electrically compatible with the signals used by Digital Visual Interface (DVI). HDMI carries 2 more channels for audio. DVI no audio. In a sense HDMI is better - only if your monitor has the HDMI input jack. Or else you would need to buy a converter cable HDMI to DVI, one cable per...

video card for Eight 22" monitors

It's been discussed before in another thread. Things to consider: 1) Purchase price. 2) Replacement cost. 3) Impact to productivity. This is if/when one of your video cards go south. 2 quad cards. Each quad card: $375. About $90 per monitor. Replacement cost: $375. If one goes...

Anyone has more than two computers?

I realize that this probably came across as a joke. If one believes in it... it is so unfounded. Each of those 22"/23" LCD monitor is rated at 40+ watts or so. Let's say it's 50W each. Let's say... you have 20 of those monitors. 20 x 50 = 1000 W, or 1KW That's how much power you...

video card for Eight 22" monitors

XP will work okay. It is the workhorse version of Windows. But there is one big limitation: It only supports up to 4GB. Nowadays trading computers are likely to have 6GB because prices have come down a bit. I think 6GB is the best but 4GB would probably work in your situation. Windows 7...

How to manage so much information of Forum

I think managing 1000+ bookmarks would not be an issue. Adding your own comments/remarks to any given URL may not be an issue. But your requirement of having a full-text search on the contents of those 1000+ pages (and only those 1000+ pages that you specified) can be an issue. OneNote...

How to manage so much information of Forum

I don't know for sure. But I believe, from what I gathered, the OneNote file is of proprietary formats. You can try copying a OneNote "notebook" file to a copy that doesn't have Microsoft Office installed and see if you can read it. I don't think you can. I am not familiar with google doc.
