Parliament adopts ambitious approach on financial transaction tax

The consequences of this tax will be draconian and they will be forced to capitulate. It is insanity.

facebook ipo - opinions - play by play - keep it brief

A business that is destined to fail because demand is not sustainable (your contention and quite possibly correct) does not meet the definition of a Ponzi scheme. It is a fad and, like many fads, it gets sold at a much higher price than its long term value warrants. I also believe GroupOn...

I trade only futures but there was a time in the 90's when I traded tech stocks. My experience with "hot" is it has to stay hot. Once it becomes a broken deal -- and this is a very broken deal -- there is no telling at what level it will turn. I guess if I liked the fundamentals (and I...

facebook ipo - opinions - play by play - keep it brief

Why? FB seems no different than any other IPO: Some are decent deals, some are overpriced. I think a 100 billion valuation is nine steps beyond absurd so I didn't buy it. Bernie Madoff was an entirely different situation.

Underwriters band together, keep FB above 38. Market manipulation?

That is how it works. But you do have one thing wrong: Many IPOs have performed well enough that at various points in the cycle green shoes have generated very significant profits for underwriters.

How do you know it was half rather than a third, three quarters or the entire amount?

Priscilla Chan just made $9.5 billion dollars today!

We are still six cards short of a deck and don't even rule all of Ireland!! I say we because my family is from Cork yet the fact is I don't really care about any of it. I'm born here and it is the US that I care about.

The bottom line here is that, given the weak hands this crap appears to be in, none of us wants to be long at the open and none of us will rush to get long without some change in circumstance. The "hot" deal that turns out to need the syndicate bid to stay above water on day one is likely to...

I think the first sentence below is a joke. I'll read any response you care to give but when I am talking about a 50/50 split it is a world apart from 70/30 which you may be talking about. In fact there is no way to know what split you are speaking about. I have no doubt that there are firms...

Do you see that you pretend that this is a continuation of the conversation but all the numbers that are here (and the 50/50 split is not here) are simply radically different. The original contention I challenged from another poster was one contract to forty with 50/50 split. You are not...

facebook ipo - opinions - play by play - keep it brief

When was the last time a sophisticated underwriter put up their own money (in size) to peg a deal? When that green shoe is gone -- sometime within 11 minutes of the Monday open -- they may pick their spots to do some token buying --and selling -- but they know that being buried in a position...

Should I cut position size on Monday?

You should sell down to the "sleeping point". You clearly do not have enough experience with your hedge under the market conditions you anticipate. Your discomfort is telling you something.

As someone previously stated wasn't the buy just above 38.00 say 38.01 about as low risk as can be found. The chances of Morgan letting it break below the figure seems slight. I don't trade stocks and expected the offering to do somewhat better on day one so I missed it but can any active...

Priscilla Chan just made $9.5 billion dollars today!

Doesn't California community property only extend to increases in net worth after marriage? There is also a pretty good chance there is a prenup. Seems to me the kid had a pretty good week. Hard to call him an "idiot" as he was called in this post. He's been with the girl a long time and...

I have no reason to doubt what you say ... and you seem definitive about it. I just want to be sure that what you are commenting on relates to the ACTUAL discussion I was in. It was contended that there were futures firms @ 50/50 split allowing the trader who has a one lot track record to...

Underwriters band together, keep FB above 38. Market manipulation?

But the green shoe left them with a 60 million plus covered short. That over allotment allows them to buy in the market without getting killed. I'm not suggesting those running the book are happy but I doubt they are yet underwater for significant sums. and I suspect they do not have the...

Oh ... when you came back with this: "To be honest, I don't know names of any firms that will do such a deal. However, I do see 100% economic justification to have such a business model for a firm- " The "I do see 100% justification" part sound like you went from Patsy Cline to Queen...
