    Help building my first PC

If one shops carefully and chooses one's components well, one can still save a nice chunk of change in addition to getting optimal performance for the buck. Possibly even more if one already has an OS.

    Help building my first PC

More RAM. Half a gig is pretty good, a whole gig is very nice. Check out the reviews on the various mainboards. Go hang out at places like SharkyExtreme and Anandtech. Get the best prices at Pricewatch. Get a good power supply. Get a good case (I highly recommend Lian-Li)...

    Burn in for new computers

This has been discussed in a previous thread (do a search to get find the discussion). In general, I'd advise to power down at the end of the day (as I usually do).

Can of worms--whose posts are worth reading?

It's slightly more sinister than that. I encourage all posters to refrain from revealing personal info to the public. One user posted his phone number, and quickly removed it with a warning to others and a comment suggesting seriously disturbed callers. It's been a while, and I can neither...

    Windows XP: Home or Pro?

I think you will find this does not work. XP Pro works on multiprocessor machines (with two CPUs) but this does not mean that you have a license to use it on two different computers. However, licensing at MS is more art than science it seems, so you just might have a special case. But I...

    Jokes

A tourist wanders into a back-alley antique shop in San Francisco's Chinatown. Picking through the objects on display he discovers a detailed, life-sized bronze sculpture of a rat. The sculpture is so interesting and unique that he picks it up and asks the shop owner what it costs. "Twelve...

    Windows XP: Home or Pro?

Nope. XP Pro is XP Home plus a few things (Remote Access, VPN, file encryption, better backup & restore, multiproc (I think) and IIS). Most likely, you do not need the additional features. Your best bet is to figure it out yourself: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/whichxp.asp

    Quad-head Video Card buying help

Generally, dual cards come with a dig-to-anal converter, don't remember if my G450s came with one or not. If not, you can buy em. Dual G450s are pretty cheap, good way to go, IMO.

What would you do if 25 yrs old?

I'm not exactly a gray haired, Florida retiree - but I ain't a Start Partying at 11pm Guy anymore either. Frankly, I'm not sure I ever was a Start Partying at 11pm Guy. Seems like the youngsters start later these days. At 11pm, I'm having my last mug of wine and thinking about bed. Anyway...
