Is SPY due for a Pullback?

In answer to OP's question, I think yes we're due for a significant correction. New highs with decreasing volume is a bearish divergence for sure.

    No volatility crunch?

Yeah, Josef K is right. Really you accidentally made money on that straddle just from luck. What happens is the market prices the straddle according to the movement it expects. So if the market expects a 5% move then IV adjusts accordingly and the straddle price anticipates a 5% move. If...

    No volatility crunch?

For a while I was experimenting with buying straddles before earnings but it was like 1 or 2 weeks before, not 1 day before. The idea was to buy low IV and sell higher IV right before earnings i.e. I did not hold past earnings. This was based on the observation that on some stocks IV ramped...

    Learning How to Really Program/Code

You can't. Give it up. You either have the ability to think logically and symbolically or you don't. If you can't handle math then you'll never get beyond writing "hello world" programs.

who is the best online broker

I wouldn't use the adjective "kafkaesque" but they do seem to be more particular than other brokers WRT new accounts. Keep in mind that IB is a large discount broker and don't provide alot of hand-holding. Some customers are very needy and there are brokers for those requiring constant...

Is counter trend trading a disease?

Trend following on one time frame involves counter trend trading on a lower time frame. In other words when you buy dips you're really buying into a longer term trend while the market goes down in the short term.

    IB's Option Trader

Right now I use Excel to calculate the mid and "fair" sell and buy prices based on the current bid/ask. Then I manually enter that calculated price for a limit order. It's a manual error-prone process. I like OP's suggestion mostly because it sounds like this could be automated in the TWS...

Are there any truly liquid indices for trading options?

It sounds like you're "getting in" with options that are ATM or NTM which are the most liquid with tightest bid/ask spreads. Assuming you're "getting out" when the options are OTM then yes, the bid/ask spreads are wider the further OTM you go, no matter what the underlying instrument is...
