Interactive Brokers: stop orders for stocks in extended hours

Have you tried using stop-limits with a wide limit price? I think that is the only way you are going to be able to do stops in extended hours trading. I don't believe IB will let you do market orders during that time of day (could be wrong though).

    Nanex Video Interview

Sorry, HFT affects even high volume stocks negatively. Spreads are better than low volume stocks, but the shares you can access are tiny as compared to years past. And by the way, I thought HFT was making the whole market efficient - why not low volume stocks too? The bots that I see are trading...

    Nanex Video Interview

Everything that I've experienced as a human trader with HFT has been negative, especially on low volume stocks. Spreads are higher and the number of shares available at any price point is lower. For the average investor, I would suspect HFT has made fills worse, not better. I guess my point...

I wouldn't be too worried about crapware that comes on computers - just use this: http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/

IB changes margin rules abruptly without informing

Actually my experience has been that IB will compensate for wrongdoing if it is their fault. Plus if you pursue this it might give a valid explanation of why everything happened like it did.

IB changes margin rules abruptly without informing

Agreed. Have IB review your circumstance and see if they can provide a logical explanation of what happened.

IB changes margin rules abruptly without informing

The fact that you are depending on using their margin calculations to auto-cancel your orders is a recipe for trouble. That is my point.

IB changes margin rules abruptly without informing

I don't want to be a dick, but it seems like if you have an active order and you don't cancel and it is eligible to be filled, then you are taking a risk there of an actual fill regardless of how IB has performed in the past. I would never rely on that "strategy." I don't see how you can say...

    Smashing Equipment in Anger?

I do it all the time. One of my keyboards is beyond repair at this point. I had a cheap desk (mdf) before I crushed it into a pile of rubbish. I'm surprised I didn't break my hand on that desk. I now have a similar cheap desk - only a matter of time before it dies. I've also totally obliterated...

Yes I agree, but I don't think he'll be there. But tip of my hat to you if it pays off.

You'd be better off giving your money to charity.

    Why allow Busted Trades?

I agree completely. Some may argue that you shouldn't be able to wipe yourself out financially with a typo, and I can sympathize with that point of view. However, there has got to be some penalty (the bigger the better in my opinion) for screwing up.

QuoteTracker To Be Finished End of 2011

I'm not speaking for Jerry, but I know for a fact (from past experience) that Yahoo historical data has a bug where it spits out duplicates for the last day and those "duplicates" are slightly different in terms of prices. I don't use Quotetracker so I don't know if it can filter the bad data...

Can anyone at IB tell us when native NYSE hidden orders will be supported?

That probably means you don't have hidden orders "activated" through the configuration or options menu. There should be a "Hidden" checkbox on the order ticket.

Can anyone at IB tell us when native NYSE hidden orders will be supported?

Ah you mean you did a SMART hidden order, not just a direct BATS order. I misunderstood.

Can anyone at IB tell us when native NYSE hidden orders will be supported?

Seems like your expectations are too high for this order type. Cancel and reroute?

what to buy if inflation returns

As Jim Grant says, the price of gold is determined by 1 / n where n = the confidence you have in people controlling the monetary system. I don't think the price of gold peaks unless interest rates get over 5%+ and with the current people in charge, that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. I...

what to buy if inflation returns

I don't understand why you think bond yields have anything to do with inflation, especially since they are heavily manipulated by the "central planners" of countries that have a large incentive to keep rates low.

what to buy if inflation returns

It's possible that you are right, but it's possible you are wrong. I would say that there has never been any deflation in the last 11 years so your central premise is invalid.

what to buy if inflation returns

You buy at least some gold now so that when other people realize they need gold to protect themselves from the world's printing presses, you will be able to sell to them.
