    How and which to choose?

Well if you include NYSE, NASDAQ, and AMEX, then I'm pretty sure all components of the SP500 are covered.

    How and which to choose?

The "otherlisted.txt" has NYSE and AMEX symbols in it. I believe it tells you which exchange each symbol is from in one of the fields. So if you combine the data from "nasdaqlisted.txt" and "otherlisted.txt", you should get what you want. Well the S&P 500 is not all in either the NASDAQ or the...

First year full time trader - Estimated Tax underpayment

Everyone has to pay quarterly. If you have a "real job" your company should withhold taxes for you so you don't have to worry about it.

    How and which to choose?

I didn't understand your question, but if you are asking how you can tell which exchange a symbol is traded on, then you can use the Nasdaq ftp service: ftp://ftp.nasdaqtrader.com/symboldirectory/ Look at nasdaqlisted.txt and otherlisted.txt.

First year full time trader - Estimated Tax underpayment

You'll want to read and understand Form 2210: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i2210.pdf https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f2210.pdf In the instructions pdf, under "Worksheet for Form 2210, Part IV, Section B—Figure the Penalty," it looks like the current penalty is 3%, but remember not all...

ETF data before 9:30 and after 16:00

IB might have that option. Something like Nanex would. If you just want to backtest and not actually see the data, check out Quantopian or QuantConnect.

Trade example from today-What happened here?

Well then you might change your order size depending on how liquid the stock is so that when you do get bad fills on relatively illiquid stocks, you won't be hurt as much.

Trade example from today-What happened here?

You got the opening price. 3.29. Sh*t happens. You might seriously consider putting a limit on your OPGs so that you don't take ones that are out of whack.

    OPG and market orders

If you send a market OPG order, won't you get the opening price regardless of what it is? Unless the security doesn't have a defined opening, it seems like you will always get filled. Have you sent a market OPG order where it didn't get filled? Or are you talking about an OPG order with a limit...

    Remote trading (not from home)

When I trade while traveling and can't find a wi-fi hot spot for my laptop, I use Verizon's prepaid mi-fi plans. So I'm not committed to a monthly/yearly plan, and Verizon's network is usually decent no matter where I'm at.

    Perhaps the dumbest question ever...

And rightfully so. If HFT algos are allowed to exist, then spoofing algos should be allowed to exist. Their fill rates vs cancel rates are the about the same and they keep each other in check.

    Short Selling.

GASL had a 1:10 reverse split. So let's say you were short 1000 shares, then after the reverse split you would only be short 100 shares. The price would be 10x the previous close. So you would see no difference.

How do day traders and investors pay their taxes?

If you are worried about drawdowns, then you should factor that in on your estimated payments. Don't pay as much (or none at all), and then just accept the fact that you may be paying a penalty come tax time. But in that case, it is a good problem to have - i.e., you have made a bigger profit...

How do day traders and investors pay their taxes?

It is Form 2210: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f2210.pdf If you look at that and read the instructions, you'll see that if you attempt to pay everything at the end of the year, they will still charge you interest for the first 3 quarters in which you did not pay anything.

What will my broker charge me to borrow shares for purpose of short selling?

You are technically correct, but it is my experience trading through IB that I have to pay to short stocks a lot of the time. I am always paying interest to short stocks overnight. http://ibkb.interactivebrokers.com/node/41

How do day traders and investors pay their taxes?

I think you have to pay that amount spread over the 4 estimated tax quarters, rather than all on Jan 15th of 2016. Otherwise, you will be subject to penalties.

What will my broker charge me to borrow shares for purpose of short selling?

You do get charged to borrow stock no matter what amount of money you have in your account. If a person sells the shares that you are borrowing, then your broker has to find other shares to borrow. If they can't locate those shares, then they will be forced to cover your position.

What will my broker charge me to borrow shares for purpose of short selling?

As far as I know, you can't use a cash account to short stocks.

What are the steps to becoming knowledgeable about the market?

Cramer almost had to shut down his fund due to poor performance until his wife bailed him out. So maybe get a wife that is a better trader than you and let her do all the trading.
