    there's no one answer that fits everything. most people will tell you to find a setting that works well with the instrument/time frame you're trading. Other people will say "indicators are worthless; learn price action."

    that makes sense. I've never actually averaged up. I just always read about it. I tried it today in a demo account and realized that it was messing with my stops.

    Obviously you shouldn't enter unless you know it's gonna be profitable. But averaging up, as I explained above, can stop you out of what would be a winning trade with a loss.

    Honestly, averaging into losers a preset number of times seems way more profitable to me. A PRESET NUMBER OF TIMES. Not martingaling until you blow your account. Averaging down gives you MORE wiggle room. In fact, averaging down lets you profit from "noise" in that wiggle room...

    Like if you shorted LEH a few weeks ago. Does your position expire and you lose all your money? Do you get automatically cashed out at whatever price it was delisted at?
