    Building your own trading computer

WF: I think the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor is a good one for today's technology. I don't have any experience using it but per Passmark benchmark it has a score of 6052. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html In my earlier days I made the mistake of buying boxes solely...

    Goodbye ET!

Still holding AAPL short from $300 for a target of $250, and shorting ES from 1200 all through 1250 probably with the progressive top calls. Or pretending. Like this note. Pretending to be quitting. Like so many times before. Just a comedian's act to arouse attention.

are 1600x1200 monitors still being made?

You are correct Scataphagos. Sorry. I was only thinking of the 4:3 ratio.

are 1600x1200 monitors still being made?

I used to use (still have a few) this 4:3 monitor: Envision H190L LCD monitor http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&source=imghp&biw=1262&bih=591&q=Envision+H190L+LCD+monitor&gbv=2&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai= Found one on Craigslist for $60...

are 1600x1200 monitors still being made?

I suppose there is still a market for these new 4:3 ratio LCD monitors. Perhaps for some applications, the 4:3 ratio is better. But by and large most new LCD monitors you find in this market are 16:9. These monitors are fairly reliable. I still have 5 of them that I re-used for non-trading...

are 1600x1200 monitors still being made?

I am not sure if they make new ones. You can buy used ones. Or, you can mount your 16:9 ratio monitors in portrait fashion. By: 1) Get a monitor stand that allows you to rotate 90-degree at will. Or 2) Unscrew/screw the 4 screws on the VESA mount to turn that 90 degree. But need to make...

    Pictures of your trading stations

No need to read about the CRT technology. It is ancient. While they are still in use, you cannot buy new ones. Bulky, heavy. The predominant monitors for computer (not TV) are LCD wide, around 22" to 23".

i7-900s vs Xeon processors - identical?

This is awesome! Score is comparable to 980 which is priced at a tousand dollar. If 9178 fits on the same socket that will be great.

    Building your own trading computer

An update from what I had learned. A quick checklist for those who are thinking of building your own trading computer and assembling it together. 1) Review your trading style. This dictates what hardware you should have. Mostly it is a consideration for the speed of the CPU required. The...

You are welcome radist. Good luck and enjoy your new system. You have won the contest as the fastest rapid poster in the hardware forum. LOL :D 11 pages in one day. And another 7 pages in another one day period the second round.

Ha! Don't you hate it when that happens? Maybe my upgrade cycle will be shorter than 4 years now.

They are dual cards. Each video card supports 2 monitors. I have 3 cards in my i7-930 box to drive 6 monitors, Windows 7.

I think most dual-head video cards will do. I use a few of these PNY Technologies 8400 GS 512MB dual-cards. I like these for their passive cooling (no fan). Works pretty well. Supported resolution is 2048 x 1536. Should work for your Dell mon...

    Requesting Help Before Ordering Hardware!

It's true. They don't come with adjustable stands or a swivel for rotating 90-degree. You may want to consider getting your own mount/stand for the monitor. With mine... some of them are on the plastic stands they provided. Other ones are mounted on some 3M extended arms I got from...

    Requesting Help Before Ordering Hardware!

I am not sure what you meant by "won't do" radist. All I said was having a 40-inch TV/monitor only 1 to 2 feet away, with a resolution of only 1920 x 1080, is UNCOMFORTABLE after a while, and I suspect you will get eye-straint quickly with watching the information on it all day. Without higher...

24-inch monitor is nice to view about 1-2 feet away. I had tried a 26-inch one time and had returned it. Having a "BIG" monitor (26-inch or higher) close-up without added resolution (remained as 1920 x 1080 on the 26-inch) is not worth it IMO.

Oh wow! I am keeping mine to sell them on ebay in a few years for some real profits! LOL :D But I think they are out because they are replaced by newer products (probably the LED monitors not LCD). My close second is Viewsonic brand. Third is Envision. They are all good. I have...

Second thought, radist: if you don't have a lot of data to back up, you can use one of those USB thumb drives (flash drives). The going rate is about $10 for 4 GB, $20 for 8 GB. It is easier than a USB disk drive. If you have a lot of data, then the USB disk drive is more economical.
