The subject of this thread is within the title itself. Do you consider breakout trading to be a high-probability way to make money in the markets, or do you consider it to be a fool's game? I think we can all agree that breakouts do occur but I'm speaking generally...when price typically reaches...

Frankly, they can kill each other into extinction and I wouldn't give a fuck...just as long as they keep that bullshit in their so-called communities.

I trade strictly by price so I don't see any market as being more difficult than another. I track index futures, currency futures, fx, financial futures, commodities, etc. and I've traded some markets without even knowing the market...based purely on the market's action.

Well, just caught a secondary test in Euro and Nasdaq futures. Profitable trades so far. If PA doesn't work, someone should tell the markets. Let me now see if oil turns around to the upside......2 min. chart.

Why do you constantly fuss at those who don't use whatever form of analysis you deem proper? I've noticed that whenever someone talks TA or PA, you never stop fussing. What's the deal? If your method of analysis works so well, why bother fussing at those whom you believe aren't doing as well as...

We can all have our opinions about PA or any other form of analysis but one thing none of us can argue with is results.

Candlestick patterns is one of those things I will probably never understand. LOL. From my experience, candlesticks causes one to focus too much on how bars close and other nonsense instead of focusing on zones of support and resistance. They (candlesticks) look good for show, but I prefer bar...

PA is the only thing that makes sense on any time frame, IMO.

I can't speak for those people except to say that risk management plays a large role in how much their wrong decision will affect them.

I'd say that trading strictly the release is a form of gambling. However, if you can read price, you can usually tell if it's setting up for an up or down move before a release. That's been my experience, at least.

I don't know if this helps but I switched to currency futures instead of the fx spot market in order to duck the really wide spreads. I use TD Ameritrade and you can expect a 2.5 pip spread on average even in the major pairs. Their commission FX market has a 1/10th of a pip spread in the majors...
