    Airline Equities and Bankruptcy Risk

Hey All, What do you think the risk of bankruptcy is for the airlines? I checked AAL today, and they're at about 17, down from 60 before Corona hit. Airlines seem like a reasonable buy n' hold play, but if bankruptcy hits... I did a little analysis of this last year. See link below. Thanks...

    Call options buying

You're welcome... did this example clear it up for you? I know how confusing some of these articles can be... they throw a lot of jargon around and say a lot without clear examples. I think that some of them are computer-generated.

    Call options buying

200 is the correct gross profit. Not sure where you got 30 from, and 200-30 is 170... I assume the missing 1 is a typo. Anyway, here is truth: Assuming 100 shares per contract: Premium: $10 Contract open fee: $3 Sell price: 105 Strike price: 103 Contract close fee: $1.50 Price diff: 105-103=$2...

    Yet another GME thought

Straddle or strangle seems to make sense... except for the Premiums! Have you looked at the premiums on calls and puts for GME? HOLY SMOKES one option costs more than I pay in property taxes, and I don't blame the sellers. There's a laundry list of extraordinary risks of all colors with GME...

    Yet another GME thought

Stop with this bullshit and trade something where you have some edge or insight. Whatever side you take on GME is nothing more than a 50/50 gamble... you have NO IDEA which way this will swing. It's like playing craps or blackjack. That's why you have no confidence in your position. It's built...

What is your favorite brand of commercially available beer?

..not a local microbrew; something with a large-scale distribution. I like the Guinness family, including Harp and Smithwicks.

naked x3 GME march calls with IB

Well said. Some of the carnage of this event is enough to make a grown man cry. I think it's going to get worse before it gets better.

    Yet another GME thought

In my opinion, you should stay out of this game. It's even more irrational than the market normally is, and has the potential to explode in your face no matter which side you take. Emotions are running high here, and anything can happen. Just imagine one of these scenarios: - You go short, and...

Complaint - GME liquidation problem which resulted in huge negative liquidation value

No. It was the trade, and ultimately it was YOU. Take accountability for your positions. I feel very strongly about this. I will not allow you to point a finger at your broker. You need to understand this point, or you'll get burned again. You left yourself exposed. You can't do this in...

Complaint - GME liquidation problem which resulted in huge negative liquidation value

I want to be clear that I know how much these things hurt. Be strong... you'll pull out of this. You have to take the loss, take the lesson, and move on. You have no legal recourse. The problem is that it was a wild, reckless trade. To sell naked calls into a stock being squeezed like this is...

Complaint - GME liquidation problem which resulted in huge negative liquidation value

^^^ This.... lots of issues here. 1. A phone conversation... nothing in writing 2. You got margin called. I didn't read the rules, but in a forced liquidation I'd expect IB to treat it like a Stop order. Stop orders become market orders when a price is breached... and in times of market...

Company for former History teacher to trade?

Yes... but there's a difference between history and a former history teacher. I'm in balls deep man... trade tech, quant, algo, hedge funds... way out of his league. I think that there is... but where? HA! Good comment, I must admit! But there's got to be some corner of the market that's...

Company for former History teacher to trade?

Hey All, I have a retired friend who's getting interested in the market. He was a U.S. History teacher for 30 years, was in law school for a stint, and also studied a bit of economics. What company or industry would best leverage his experience? I was thinking Fx, because of how history...

    Aspiring Quant

Set up an account with Interactive Brokers. Use their API. Write some basic quant algos to get your feet wet (like VWAP, Bollinger Bands, etc.). Use Python.. it's what many quants use. Get 25K together (FINRA minimum) and TRUST YOUR ALGOS WITH YOUR REAL MONEY. Paper trading is ok for test, but...

I think IB is the biggest bubble that needs to burst

Preach it! IB was instrumental in me getting my first big programming jobs in finance, because I could get my feet wet writing algos using the IB api. I could then talk intelligently about them in interviews.

I think IB is the biggest bubble that needs to burst

Amen!! I've tried Etrade, Ameritrade, ScottTrade, TradeKing, and a few others... they all suck compared to IB. Unless you want to pay big bucks for a BB terminal, Eikon, or the like... IB is a blessing!
