    No income tax this year?!

Makes perfect sense to me. What better way to put money in the hands of the people than to waive income taxes? ARE YOU WITH ME!

Technical Analysis - is it more than just a Self fulfilling prophecy?

Methinks that the absolute shortest timeframe for fundamentals is one month; many institutional funds balance once per month on fundies. This overlaps with shorter time horizon styles, like swing, week, or momentum trading.

Technical Analysis - is it more than just a Self fulfilling prophecy?

A friend of a friend did very well with TA. Made millions and bought a ranch in Colorado.

    Reading financial reports

I'll pass along the best lesson I ever got from an experienced accountant about reading financial reports: companies can declare an annual loss 2 out of every 5 years. A loss means no tax, my good friend!

I could not agree more. Understanding the risk in any position is key to success.

DAL, AAL, UAL, et alia - Data - Comparison to 9/11

If we can find someone with a BB terminal and buy them a nice bottle of scotch, maybe they'll show us the the CDS curve on the big airlines. The only place I've ever seen a Credit Default Swap pricing curve is on a BB terminal.

DAL, AAL, UAL, et alia - Data - Comparison to 9/11

Hey All, Can anyone help me to get a chart going back 25 years on AAL, DAL, UAL... going back to around 1995? I'm drawing an analogy between the CV fallout in the airline industry to that from 9/11/2001--when all planes were grounded. Does anyone have access to these data? Do these data exist...

Gold, 10T in QE, and Inflation

No.. I'm talking about buying gold in the traditional sense, as a hedge against inflation. - Agree or disagree that with 10T in QE, inflation is a risk that must be considered? - Agree or disagree with the traditional theory that gold is the best hedge against inflation?

Gold, 10T in QE, and Inflation

...well, I am! With all this new money being poured into the markets, we have to start thinking about inflation. Gold is pushing 1700 now... are we headed for 2000 or above? I don't need to remind those in this sub-forum that gold shot up to over 1900 subsequent to the Mortgage Crisis... and...

What's the play for this weekend?

With all the whipsawing we've seen, who would have guessed that we'd have such a clean upmove this week?

    Best Economists in History?

In your opinion, who is the best economist to watch, listen to, and learn from? At risk of being hit with rotten tomatoes, I've been watching Powell, and find him to be brilliant--I learn a ton from him. Who would you recommend to watch/read? Greenspan? Marx? Bernanke? Yellin? Lagarde? Thx...

Why is the efficient market hypothesis flawed

My strongest argument against the EMH is that it takes time for firms to unwind positions. Example: Let's say you're a hedge fund long 1,000,000 shares of IBM, at the moment valued at USD 121.40, for a total value of USD 121,400,000. Then, IBM badly misses expectations; they are over-valued...

What's the play for this weekend?

Agree. I'm leaning towards an agenda of a nice pop for this week, starting on Monday 4/6, to cheer peeps before the long weekend/Easter holiday. This is what we have seen. Then the whipsaw pulls back, and the next round of bad news hits Monday 4/13

What's the play for this weekend?

Any thoughts? - Methinks that T will want to tweet some positive news for the Easter holiday - Perhaps announce the date that bars and restaurants can re-open, with limited hours? - Some announcement regarding barbers and other small businesses? Will we get a pop on Monday? Perhaps the...
