From IB link 1 above: "For example, the collateral balance on a USD-denominated security would be: Collateral Balance = (stock A prior day closing price x 102%, rounded up to the nearest 1.00) x (number of shares stock A) + (stock B prior day closing price x 102%, rounded up) x (number of...

German derivatives traders shocked by new tax law

It never seizes to amaze me how politicians are able to construct complex laws without any real purpose. If they want to ban derivatives trading then ban it. Don't do this shit where people can end up with a massive tax debt if they are not aware of the changes.

which base currency to choose for IB account

Base currency is simply used to calculate FX profit/loss. It does not have any effect on your underlying balances. You underlying balance should reflect the currency in which you do the majority of your trading so you do not lose on FX conversion every time you trade. You can hedge FX.

IBKR reserves the right to reject any IBKR Lite order

I love the freedom that comes with being a trader. But I have grown extremely dependent on IB and I don’t like being dependent. What the few alternatives for EU residents have a in common is low equity and no real advantages. Except for Schwab if you live in Germany, UK, Switzerland or Spain.

IBKR reserves the right to reject any IBKR Lite order

I also believe that to be the case. Unfortunately I do not have access to zero commission brokers. It would have been quite easy to test.

IBKR reserves the right to reject any IBKR Lite order

"IBKR Lite is meant for retail investors, including financial advisors trading on behalf of their retail clients. IBKR reserves the right to reject any IBKR Lite order or series of orders if IBKR determines the order(s) appear to show non-retail trading behavior. At the time an order is...

rebates for limit orders on nasdaq

Hi Robert, Good to have you back. You lift the quality of the discussion. Do you know whether participating in the opening auction/cross on NASDAQ is considered taking liquidity and thus incurs a charge of USD 0.003 per share = USD 30 for 10,000 shares + commission?

At Tradestation you can choose direct market access. In that case I would assume the same fill between the two brokers.

Living with Negative Rates on Danish Mortgages

Interest paid on idle cash of more than CHF 100.000 at Interactive Brokers = -2.11%. For idle cash in DDK you only have to pay 1.25%. That is at Interactive Brokers where you find some of the best interest rates on idle cash. It is indeed a crazy world.

I was charged a ridiculous overnight short fee

It was a genuine - not a passive aggressive, patronizing, confrontational - question. If your impression was based on a guess, I would expect to continue to receive notifications from IB and thus avoid forced buy-ins by anyone other than myself as have been my experience throughout the years...

I was charged a ridiculous overnight short fee

No, IB forwards multiple notifications the day before. If IB does not find shares to borrow and you do not buy back the shares, IB will liquidate the following day. Where did you got the impression that IB will liquidate without notification? Just a guess?

    Robinhood fined USD 1.25 million

I do not have any reason to believe that any of the incumbent major brokers is any faster than anyone else, so not selling order flow would be my priority.
