    Measuring Trend

The markets are not random, as proven in this thread.

    Measuring Trend

One key thing I'd like to cover is ranking. Assume you have both a trend strength indicator (e.g., ROC) and a trend quality indicator (e.g., TSI). Assuming for the sake of argument that you were satisfied with the measurement performance of both indicators, would you rank them equally or...

    They're not 2 adjacent bars. :p

    Measuring Trend

Unless HH, HL, and HH are adjacent to each other, you're missing my argument. I only need 4 contiguous points to calculate a trend quality indicator. Can a trend line reasonably be defined by 4 contiguous points? Rhetorical question. The only honest answer is "Hell No!" Case closed.

    Measuring Trend

OK what's the minimum number of points you need to draw a reasonable trendline? I only need 4 bars for the KER. Is a 4-bar trendline something that makes sense? I don't know, and don't care enough to any testing myself. I assume those who do care about trendlines have done or are willing...

Until you explain how any of that translates into a measurement of trend, you've demonstrated nothing.

    Measuring Trend

OK, tell me how you get measurements of trend strength and/or trend quality out of them and I'll be convinced.

    Measuring Trend

You need HH, HL, LH, LL to draw trend lines. If you think those occur in the short term, the joke's on you. :D

I'm still looking for that indicator. Good luck with your trend lines.

    Measuring Trend

When I use a technical indicator, I automatically get a number aka a measurement. You're telling me I have to jump through all sorts of extra hoops to squeeze some sort of number out of trendlines. This comes across as archaic at best in the age of automated trading strategies. That's not...

    Measuring Trend

This thread is about measuring trends. When you measure something, you get a number. This number is known as a measurement. There are no measurements produced by channels and trendlines. They are utterly worthless for measuring trends. Maybe they can detect trends, but that is not the...

Where's the measurement? How do I get numbers out of channels and trend lines?

    Finding the Holy Grail

The basic premise is silly. Assuming anybody has found the Holy Grail is silly. We now have a whole slew of traders who have no idea of what is meant by "the Holy Grail of trading."

    Measuring Trend

OK, here's my definition(s): A trend is a propensity for time-series data to be unidirectional, or to at least move significantly more in one direction than in the other direction. Financial trends are mostly transitory, coming and going unpredictably. A trend in which data is...
