Ray Dalio on Failure, Meaningful Work and Relationships

Think his ideas the same that you think of a self-help book. While the author might me a narcissist and a degenerate alcoholic, the ideas are well thought through and makes sense.

    Fully automated futures trading

There are various little pockets of arbitrage out there, but usually they have to do with some form of risk. To quote myself, "there are no free lunches, just cheap lunches" LOL, yeah. To close out the rolls and bagels discussion, here is what I told FCT: I took spooz as an example. Usually...

Ray Dalio on Failure, Meaningful Work and Relationships

My way is to attach more weight to the opinion of the person who knows the most about the topic. Than again, I have never managed a big team so it might not work with 50 people (for example).

Ray Dalio on Failure, Meaningful Work and Relationships

Well, it's simple really - you just have to care about making money more than you care about being right. I try to build that type of thought process on my team, it's tricky (people tend to get touchy about their egos) but everyone knows that it's about that check at the end of the year. Except...

Any experience hiring a programmer? Where should I look?

There is a number of differences between a developer at a start-up and a quant developer in a PM group or a fund. The main one is that "I know what I want but I don't know how to do it" - in most cases, there is no project, so things like creative thinking and ability to pick up business...

Any experience hiring a programmer? Where should I look?

Actually, when hiring really good people in 99% of cases money is not the reason. For example, it's totally common to see these people to pick a job that pays 50% less but is more interesting (e.g. see a guy pick a job at google over a job at a hedge fund). It's more about the team, the actual...

    Bitcoin futures

Yeah, man, that demand for KOSPI (kopsi?) option... I'd love to see a person make a market in Bitcoin vol. I'd also love to see a risk manager that would approve any sizable position in it.

    Saxo's 2018 Outrageous Predictions

Cute :) PS. It's sad that the last prediction (a woman occupies the top spot at more than 60 Fortune 500 companies by the end of the year) is just as unlikely as the rest

Chronic stress skews decision toward high-risk/high-benefit

Another study along the same lines, but this one correlates childhood stress with risk/reward evaluation in adults: http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2017/11/28/1708791114.full.pdf

Yes, those LEAPs will be pricing in all of dividends. It's pretty easy to see - pul up the option chain and see at what price does put price equal to the call price. That strike minus the spot price is your "forward drop" which is a combination of the dividends/borrow and interest rates.

    Puncturing the Acupuncture Myth

Placebo for the win, which is fine, as long as it's effective :) obviously, for real treatment I'd go with real medicine, but there are plenty of witch illnesses that are well treated by witch doctors.

    Buy / Write

Usually dividend schedule and dividend dates are more or less known way in advance. Or do you mean if a company suddenly announced a dividend or changed the amount? That, from options pricing perspective, be equivalent to the stock price dropping by that exact amount. So all options would be...

    Buy / Write

I have skipped the early parts of the thread since it was too adolescent for my taste, so I can't really comment on the trade or the rationale for it. The general idea for the option pricing with respect to the dividend is pretty simple. As you know, the option premium consists of the time...

Ray Dalio on Failure, Meaningful Work and Relationships

Well, some left on good terms and, in retrospect, hate it. Some were expelled and, yet, they feel it was a good experience for them. As I said, I have no opinion on BW as a place of employment but some of the concepts in his book (I have only read the old free PDF version) are very useful. In...

Ray Dalio on Failure, Meaningful Work and Relationships

While BW might or might not be a cult (a lot of people say that and I've never worked there so I have no idea), the ideas actually do have merit.

Any experience hiring a programmer? Where should I look?

Right guys are hard to find, even with the "right" amount of money. That's the nature of the game - the really good people are always in demand, have multiple offers and are hiding. Bad guys are all over the place.

    Buy / Write

Yup, that's one way to put it. While there are various statistical do-hickies to do around and about dividends, you can't really capture them in an arbitrage sense of that word.

    Fully automated futures trading

Sent you a long PM on this, as I don't want to pollute this thread (GAT is probably already upset with me getting on this tangent).

Because stock prices go up and down, including on the dividend dates (in fact, this stock has actually opened down by the dividend amount, but some do not). This is equivalent to measuring the curvature of your side walk and concluding that the earth is flat. Here is a simple way to prove it to...

    Puncturing the Acupuncture Myth

I think it's good to separate the activity from the religion of that activity. Acupuncture is supposed to be a form of invasive stimulation. Similar types of modalities are accepted physio procedures like dry needling. Unfortunately, there are either "true believers" who buy the whole process...
