Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

Most people who argue aginst what the Fed is doing right now will say that they want the Fed to do nothing, and the government to do nothing. They want "market forces" to take their course. When you bring up the point that massive deleveraging and deflation would bring the economy into a...

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

The ol' "inevitable bust" theory, unsupported by details again. When you look into your crystal ball, what does it tell you that has you so convinced that there will be this big huge inevitable bust?

You are comparing present day USA to South American or Zimbabwae? There are so many differences I don't know where to start...

Proof? There is an entire decade of proof. It's called the Great Depression and it occured in the 1930's.

High inflation is evil as well. Low inflation is ideal.

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

I am a supporter of the Conservative government of Canada, but am hardly a bureaucrat. I work in the private sector and am well educated, but would hardly call myself an "academic"... I don't promote perpetual monetary stimulus, only enough to avoid deflation. Because yes, deflation is evil.

GM: Largest IPO or Largest Scam?

The biggest shame in all of this is the previous shareholders who got screwed in the bankruptcy/bailout. They lost a ton of money when their shares plummeted. Now they have to watch as business continues as usual for GM.

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

Your anecdotal evidence is useless. You paying more for Ritz crackers at your local grocery store does not equal economy-wide inflation. The rise in the price of a barrel of oil has already been addressed. I have accepted and acknowledged the fact that certain commodities are increasing in...

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

Agreed. But if you look at all of the various sectors in the economy and the resulting price increases/decreases of all of them you get.....CPI/PPI. Regardless of if you "believe" the number or not, it's the best information we have to go by for the economy as a whole.

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

Inflation/deflation considerations do not normally factor into my short term trading either, but I do think it is important on a macro level, especially for a country so highly indebted such as the USA. As we all know, prolonged deflation would make it significantly more difficult for the USA...

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

If you reject CPI and PPI as a measure of inflation, then what do YOU use to measure inflation? Are you basing it soley on some commodities rising? The fact of the matter is that CPI and PPI are probably the best ways we have of measuring and quantifying inflation/deflation AS A WHOLE. I'm...

So what you're saying is that inflation could arise in the future, or it could not.

Nobody is arguing there hasn't been inflation in the past. This thread is all about debunking the myth that inflation is here right now.

    1. What do you mean "address"? Some people have a problem with the way CPI is calculated. What more do you want from me? 2. What about PPI? 3. I did not bring up the way CPI is calculated. You may want to reread the thread.

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

Government data being useless is getting to be a tired excuse for being wrong. I wish I could see the future like you and just know that food companies are waiting to pass on higher food costs, but I can't. Like I said, maybe that will happen, maybe it won't. The goal of this thread to is...

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

I addressed commodities as a whole in a different post. The data right now does not show any sort of trickle down from higher commodities, save for gasoline. Will it in the future? Maybe, I'm no fortune teller. I prefer to look at the hard facts. How come you are failing to address the...

Inflation? What inflation? Let's look at facts.

Correct. Certain commodities are surging, but this has not yet translated into higher consumer prices. Will it in the future? Maybe, I don't have a crystal ball. What I do know is that at this moment consumer prices are not surging with commodities.
