Stu, in the case of my return riddle, both boats start out dry. I think it was acknowledged that in the original problem the boats floated in in a normal manner and both you and I were correct in our "the same amount" answer. JB

Those sorts of riddles often rely on misdirection -- they throw you information (in this case the weight of the ship) that is not relevant in any way. The ability to quickly determine what information is important and what isn't is particularly useful in trading. JB
