DOH! Another option -- use ETFs linked to commodities instead of the futures. So buy USO instead of oil futures. You lose the leverage but it's then impossible to lose more than you invested (on longs -- shorts could theoretically if the price went through the roof).

I use Openecry and Tradestation pit (via RJ OBrien) for pit trades using stops just because IB won't support stops. Sure you can write a simple app to submit a limit order to IB once the stop price is hit, but having the order sitting in the pit already should get you a better fill. Note...
