Ed Thorp on beating the market

Yep. I'm still waiting for that trader who boasts about how well he did when everybody else was losing it.

Are you a successful at home day trader with no other source of income who began with modest means?

Actually you had an edge: the bull market. This is why virtually everybody wins in a bull market (excluding the clueless permabears, of course). Even the braindead buy&hold strategy is a winner in bull markets (and it's important to realize that a bull market is the only place where b&h is a...

Are you a successful at home day trader with no other source of income who began with modest means?

No mention was made of trading, numb-nuts. And what's the point of mentioning real estate if it had nothing to do with how he made his money? Nevermind, it was just another unbelievable trading fable anyway. Six months starting in March ends in September, you clueless dildo. And according to...

Are you a successful at home day trader with no other source of income who began with modest means?

It's the old joke: Q - how do you make a small fortune in the stock market? A - start with a large one. Of course the more money you have to start with, the bigger the drawdown you can withstand and the better odds of recovery and long-term success. But that wasn't the spirit of the first...

Are you a successful at home day trader with no other source of income who began with modest means?

Understood, and nothing wrong with what you did. I'm just saying $90K disposable account is pretty rare for a large majority of Americans, so it hardly qualifies as modest. But the OP himself seems confused on the issue, so apparently no big deal.

Are you a successful at home day trader with no other source of income who began with modest means?

We aren't talking about real estate, smurf, we're talking about a newbie trader who starts killing it in his first six months. Nobody does that good without insider info, and yes I do remember the Nineties. BTW, smurf, why didn't it happen to YOU? :D P.S. I see my stalker Slobber Lang posted...

Are you a successful at home day trader with no other source of income who began with modest means?

This thread is a fascinating combination of believability and total horseshit. For example, here's a believable story: trickshot : "I myself made nearly 7 figures in 5 years with a 20k account because I was able to repeatedly exploit a certain inefficiency in the market (which obviously...

"Marketsurfer is correct: There is no Trends!" --- There are only Turns!

Forever, Einstein. Besides, for somebody who claimed "trends are bullshit, they only exist after the fact", htf would you know when by your admission, you can't even define them? :p

"Marketsurfer is correct: There is no Trends!" --- There are only Turns!

No. The correct definition is the one that leads to the best P&L.

Are you a successful at home day trader with no other source of income who began with modest means?

Where I come from, starting out with $90K and living expenses is not beginning with "modest means." So basically you're just here to brag about your success. Congrats but this thread isn't about people like you. It's about those very few traders who started out with a few grand (90 doesn't...

    more trading frauds

I read that the Najarians' book "How We Trade Options" doesn't even qualify as a decent book for beginners, much less teach the advanced techniques it is claimed to teach. Amazing how often commercials for that pos are aired on CNBC. That's a scam, for sure.

"Marketsurfer is correct: There is no Trends!" --- There are only Turns!

The problem for someone like surf is that he doesn't understand the constraints his PhD acquaintances are working under. Classical statistics has no clue how to measure trends, so they make assumptions like linearity, stationarity, a Brownian component, etc. Being off by just a little can lead...

"Marketsurfer is correct: There is no Trends!" --- There are only Turns!

I've done it also and my results tell me that you're nuts. Aside from the fact that any conscious and observant child can see trends in stock charts, you make some self-serving distinction between 'drift' and 'trend'. Tell us, surf, exactly what do you mean by trend? And how is it so...

"Marketsurfer is correct: There is no Trends!" --- There are only Turns!

What proof? You've posted no proof. Your unsupported claim is the most self-serving thing in this thread.

"Marketsurfer is correct: There is no Trends!" --- There are only Turns!

Random maybe, unpredictable for sure. In any event, trends can exist in all types of time series, even random ones. If they last long enough in a price series, one can profit from them.

Oy. Another thread on whether trends are real. Must be Wednesday.

You claim to have all this experience and connections but you post like somebody who doesn't know which way is up. Covel's rich buddies never see the snake oil side. Why would they? He isn't selling them any trading instruction, they don't need it. So keep ignoring the big elephant in the...

Are you serious? Sheesh! OK, many of these guys are managing OPM. Getting free attention from Covel in his book(s) is free advertisement for them to get new clients. "Look here, sir, I'm good enough to get written up in a popular book about successful traders." And even if they don't care...

    Trend Following Podcast Update

No need for Covel to reply to me. I'm not really talking to him, I'm talking to the unsuspecting newbies he's trying to snare. As far as his interviewees complaining, why would they? He wasn't charging them for the interviews, was he? LOL
