What kind of leverage can you get trading bonds?

First of all, who's lending you money at less than the interbank rate? They aren't charging you any haircut? Seems rediculously cheap, I think you might be missing something. Secondly, your 'carry trade' is not risk free, not at all. Pull up a daily chart of any preferred stock or...

    SwiftTrade Campus

Do you mean they made $500k for the company and kept 1/3rd of that for themselves? Do you mean these guys are making $100k/month for themselves, or is that before a profit split?

    Trader P/L 2006

Maybe this thread is too harsh of a reality check for some. The truth is that lots of guys are making good coin in the markets. It's always been that way, no matter how much complaining there is of low volatility, program trading, pennying, etc. Personally I don't bother posting regularly...

    Winter Olympics Schedule

Have to agree. CBC blows any American network out of the water when it comes to covering the olympic games. Very knowledgeble commentators, but they cover it the way sporting enthusiasts want to see it- they show the actual competition, not just snippets of Americans competing and a couple of...

Don's Openings and More for 2006

Unless you are working with a small list and have a very tight envelope, it's extremely unlikely you'd ever be filled on all your stocks. However a keystroke error on your part could make it happen (like accidentally key in 1170 instead of 1270 for the spoos). Most guys trading openings are...

How do you track your trades ?

Excel has an excellent help file. I've learned every shred of info I know by trying to make it do things and just combing through the help file and trial and error. If you already have Esignal, you can link several fields to excel with dde. Just type in dde in esignal help and it explains...

How do you track your trades ?

I haven't seen anything that can come close to Excel once you are good at unlocking what the program can do. Pretty much anything you want or can imagine, Excel can do it.

please help verify IB unbundled commission calculations

Tell me about it. I wish IB would offer a breakdown of the fees they are charging and crediting. As it is, there is no way to verify if you are being charged correctly or not. I have a system that auto trades through IB. I don't know if i was offering or taking liquidity. Would be nice to...

    NYSE Billable Question

I've never heard of that one and I have never been charged a billable fee on orders over 5 or 10,000 shares.

BP - How does Buying Power work

Retail overnight leverage is still 2:1. Overnight prop leverage can go 10, 20, 50 times higher than that. That's a huge advantage over retail if used appropriately.

    Eye Fatigue

The first thing I do when I open a new sheet is set the background to grey. Highlight the whole sheet and use the fill button. I don't know how to set the default color on a new sheet so it's done automatically. I've looked and don't see how to do it. If someone knows, could you tell me pls?

Books that have influenced you the most

Trading in the Zone by Douglas, but only on the second read after I'd been trading for a while and it all made more sense. Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom by Van Tharp would be my number two. But I haven't read very many trading books.

    Echo

Don't forget though that when you join a professional firm, the firm doesn't pay the $1/month exchange fees that you would at a retail firm. Professional fees are more like $250/mo, and that's whether you trade or not. They also have to pay licensing fees for your login on the trading...

    Eye Fatigue

All my chart backgrounds are black. All my spreadsheets use a grey background. I find that lots of light colors on the screen is hard on the eyes because it opens the pupils more. I keep the lights low in the office and only use lcd screens. My eyes still feel buggy after a 14 hour work...

    Esignal not consistently applying dividends

Today C is incorrect. Closed at 46.33, went ex today for .49, but C=N is showing previous close still at 46.33 Other symbols that are ex-div today have accounted for it properly. I'm wondering how this could be missed? Do you have people who manually make these changes and someone just...

    An interesting question....

Find something with a wide spread and just buy the ask, sell the bid. Make some market maker's day. Many traders can get the idea behind the trade right, it's the spread and commissions that they can't overcome, over time.

    Esignal not consistently applying dividends

This is pissin' me off because data vendors should get something as basic as a dividend correct. Today's example. AA closed yesterday at 31.50 on nyse (AA=N). It paid a .15 cent dividend that went ex today. Today esignal shows the previous close as 31.35, already adjusted for the...

    Multiple brokerage accounts?

I guess it would depend what you are doing with the money. I have accounts at three different firms, but it's because each has certain qualities that lend themselves to particular strategies. One has a very good api, allows me to trade multiple instruments and has a good short inventory...

    Trader P/L 2006

Officially my worst day ever. Just one of those days where the stars aligned and everything went wrong. I didn't trade anything poorly, the market just didn't follow the plan today. -14,000 163,000 shares.
