The accuracy of trading performance back testing

Having to hedge every trade I make is like having to stick a little bit of everything I eat up my ass.

Is trading that hard? Or are people that stupid?

When a newbie lifts the offer for whatever reason, think of who is usually sitting there offering that price. Taking the other side of that trade is as "exact opposite" as you can get.

Is trading that hard? Or are people that stupid?

Call it backtesting, call it a chart -- the certainty of the past is a false comfort, because comfort itself is the siren of certain doom. The real key to success is the ability, after finding a hundred reasons to go long a stock, to short it instead without hesitation if that's where the...

    Curious where I stand

I've been trading the past few months with 250k bp, 500 share max per position, which I assume is not very much leverage at all, compared to the guys who have 1 or 2 mil and 5k max shares -- yet it seems like I am at the top or bottom of the p/l list almost each and every day at the office where...

    Crowd sentiment

Have you ever heard the saying to the effect that crowds are generally right during the middle of a move but wrong at the turns? Is this not a complete, whatchamacalit, tautology? Akin to "it works, until it doesn't"?

    Listed trading halt re-open

Thanks for the link, will look into it later. But maybe I can rephrase the question: during a listed halt, how can u guarantee first (or near first) execution when the stock re-opens?

    Listed trading halt re-open

What determines the first trade after a listed stock is halted? If there are GTC limit orders that will be filled due to gapping price, who gets the fill on the other side? The lowest/highest ask/bid?

I may break a trading rule of mine

If that's the case, then I'd agree completely. Will become very tempting in next few days to just say "to hell with it" and just hold a losing position til they need to carry you out.

I may break a trading rule of mine

I just maxed out all my cc's via convenience check (wire actually), will be very patient to deploy. Guys at home, please don't try this unless you've done it a few times already in the past lol. There was a max on surcharge so it came out to 4.99 for life of loan, not bad.

    Help this fella out

I went through the same thing, you are probably using too much leverage. Trade smaller and steadier, no reason to get angry over any single trade if it's only a tiny percentage of your overall return. You are probably constantly going for the home run; hence, any single trade has a good chance...

When it comes to the actual trading, what's the difference between a Quant and a Fundamental Analyst? Does either know any other solution to a losing position besides averaging down?

Successful traders keep silent because trading is so simple...

It would be a much simpler and straightfoward issue if every newbie who placed a trade would lose money on every single trade, no exceptions. Only after years and years of screen time would he eventually begin to break-even, then finally go on to earn a profit consistently. Then the...

Timothy Sykes Unveils New Type of Fund

Do you only trade penny stocks Tim? You can make a very decent living trading 100-200 shares of 50-100 dollar stocks, but do you really expect people out there to make anything trading bulletin board names? Are you just hoping to generate volume in the stocks you trade via your website, in...

    Blotter caveat

On my platform (anvil/assent), if a stock drops 20 pts in AH, and you short it after it has already tanked, you come in the next morning up 20 points, as the system assumes you are short from the closing price. In other words, a very easy way to inflate your figures on a consistent basis...
