    Cramer & Kudlow short gold

I don't believe he is "allowed" to short anything.

    Mexican Peso

Interesting that Mexican stock index hovers near all-time highs while peso plummets to record lows. Also worth noting that Mexico's GDP grew a less than expected .6% even with a favorable exchange rate, while Canada cited a strong CAD for its below-expected growth -- all while US posts 8%+.

    Is mr. market a liar?

If I bought QQQ's, NQ's, COMPX futures, and call options on the SMH, all on the same day, and sold each position a week later on the same day -- saying I made 4 consecutive profitable trades is a bit misleading, no? Not saying your trades were 100% correlated, but was just exaggerating to...

    Is mr. market a liar?

I'm not so sure about those exact odds, but if you look at his trades, they aren't "consecutive", which makes a huge difference. I can be a decent market timer in the right sector, i.e. buy 10 gold mining stocks just as gold is about to turn up. Sell them a few weeks later and voila -- 10...

    Is mr. market a liar?

What's the big issue? The broadest market indices are at all-time highs -- making a long string of profitable concurrent trades is not outlandish by any means. Especially when you trade the more smaller-cap names, and even more so if you plan on holding losers way past 15% on the downside :)

    The Surf Report

Felt like a bunch of other shorts threw in the towel at the same time -- afternoon rally seemed SP led with nasdaq getting dragged up kicking and screaming. Whatever happens happens, but discipline trumps conviction -- that's why marketsurfer's journal is just about the only one still going...

    The Surf Report

Heh, who are you talking to other than the 2 people posting trades on this thread? IMO most ppl bought last friday in antcipation of a thin-holiday rally . . .

    gold daytrading

You will definitely see opportunities if you happen to already have a position to monitor all day, but otherwise it would take a lot of patience. But I guess you could say that for just about every market :)

    gold daytrading

For the minis (YG and YI): volatile, yes; liquid, no. Best opportunities come every other week or so when stops get run either way, but I wouldn't call that scalping -- more akin to catch and pray :)

    Bounce coming?

The standard H&S pattern is rapidly becoming a dinosaur, especially in the more popular indices. One can argue that certain patterns exhibit their own "evolution", and that this particular creature's "right shoulder" is becoming increasingly vestigial. More often than not these days, a...

    Bounce coming?

I would think that if the market was really setup for a fall, there will be no bounce forthcoming that would let the shorts in easy -- we'd tread sideways a bit then go straight down.

    The Surf Report

This year has gone contrary to seasonality for a while now -- don't know how many times I saw them mention on the tube about how September and October are the worst months to be invested etc. Now soon the very same people will be chirping about how it's seasonally "correct" to be long the...

    IB account valuation on YG

Did anyone trading the YG on IB notice the funky way account values are calculated? All holders of Dec YG contracts have their accounts valued at 388.10 as of todays close (Dec closed at 394.60).

How difficult to trade are ES and NQ?

If you're talking intraday trading, the biggest challenge is finding a consistent system, then being able to know when to override the system based on other "factors", much of which cannot be quantified or made discrete. For example, if I get a buy signal late in the day, but know that we've...

    Pushing It

With a 5k account, there really isn't much room for pushing (and failing) is there? Why do you need to push at all, instead of just hunkering down and taking it step by step, increasing your trading size in proportion with your (hopefully) increasing account equity? I can understand wanting to...

How do you deal with Starting the Day out with Losses?

In the end, you have to be able to regard each trade separately, and take each opportunity (as well as not trading when you don't see anything) irregardless of ur current p/l. Think of each trade as one out of thousands you will take in the future, so the outcome of the next one is just a drop...
