    Chinook's EUR/USD (E/$)Mumblings

Yeah I was hoping to try to put at least one post per day, but went away for the better part of this week and will need to catch up some. Glad (and quite surprised) to see at I've got an audience, if only of one hehe. Thanks man, this will motivate me to keep posting for at least a few more...

Agreed -- Curl, can you start your own thread? Or else you'll have to go on ignore . . .

Things always this slow this time of night? :)

Very nice catch chinook. Yeah a probe of downside seems warranted -- no one who just woke up this morning and went long EUR for a position trade deserves to make any money :) Edit: or more specifically, no one who just woke up and bought EUR should get a free ride with stops at breakeven.

Real Estate is dying? Investment-wise what is the next Asset Class Du Jour?

Speaking of interest rates, how reliable is a flattened/near-inverted yield curve in forecasting an economic downturn?

Just watch out for the cold streaks -- when they come (as inevitably they will) you'll be running back into the arms of mama market faster than you can say "Gimme edge!" :D Came up with an analogy between Slansky's theorem of poker and trading on my signature link below, let me know if it...

Agreed, the nice clean moves seem to coincide with the psychic hotline telethons and 6-minute abs infomercials :)

This is great advice, and something to consider when you get the urge to trade outside your plan because you missed the move or feel frustrated. Put it this way, imagine if *every* trade you placed that didn't adhere to your original plan resulted in a loss? Wouldn't that actually be the...

How much swing will G-7 this weekend have? I'm eyeing USD/JPY to break below 109, but with Tankan and G-7 coming it's gonna be a crapshoot.

I think that's a pretty good handle you have on the stops, it can never be perfect but as long as you know what your trade-offs are in advance you can live with the results either way and make changes were necessary. I'm scaling my exits which still tends to get me out too early, but for the...

I just came to realize that no matter how much money I made doing impulse trades, I would eventually give it back and more. The unplanned trades always had little conviction behind them since I knew I was going outside my set parameters, and having no set target or stop-loss invariably led to...

    Chinook's EUR/USD (E/$)Mumblings

This was my biggest leak in my trading, having a few small losses due to plan deviation leading to further overtrading trying to get it back, and just making things worse. Somehow making the first mistake justified making the next one, and so on -- a deadly cycle, until you finally swear on...

    Chinook's EUR/USD (E/$)Mumblings

I remember that move, if you wanted the 100+ pips you had to watch your 40+ go back down to 10 or so before resuming the advance, the only problem is that the retracement looks just like all the other times a 40pt profit goes back to 0 or less. :(

There's not much one can do to resolve the fact that if one wants to go for the big moves, he must be willing to sacrifice many of his smaller open profits, IMO there's just no way around it. Do whichever suits your personality -- I'm still deciding for myself.

Painful forced awareness = puking up your guts as the market grabs you by the face and violently shakes your skull, screaming "WRONG AGAIN ASSHOLE, WRONG AGAIN!!!". :) But seriously, it's the result of the fact most of us in losing positions will filter out any information the market is...

    Poker and the Beginning Trader

Thanks for the tips, I'm slowly learning as I go. I was tempted to play in the NL ring table at the Taj last weekend but didn't have the guts to sit down with them. As for poker vs trading, amazing how in the market, lose or win a few grand aint no biggie, then sit down at a poker table and...

Thx for the tip. How loose will you go with starting hands? Suited connectors obviously for cheap, but will you play one or even 2-gappers and hope for lightning to strike? I suppose that's a matter of how aggressive/passive the table is.

    Poker and the Beginning Trader

Any of you guys play NL ring games, either online or in cardrooms? Is the money made in playing loose/aggressive, taking down blinds and bullying weak-tighties, or is it a patience game of waiting for a set or better then hoping for callers when u push in?

    Can "Noise" Be Traded?

Interesting stuff -- so the advent of technology has basically allowed (or perhaps "deceived" is a better word :)) participants to trade increasingly shorter-term time frames and thus the long-term trend becomes harder to see under all the short-term liquidity exchanges?

    Can "Noise" Be Traded?

As for noise vs efficiency as regards to liquidity -- doesn't noise go up in proportion to the number of players and the volume they provide? Those commodity and stock charts pre-information age look awfully smooth and steady in getting from point A to B. Noise is the direct result of a market...
