    Managing risk in futures

I'd appreciate it too -- maybe just post it here? Read some books on trading systems. Pruitt/Hill have some good ones. Also James Altucher, Perry Kaufman, Thomas Stridsman.

Top Economist: Americans Should Worry About Bank Deposits if Congress Doesn't Act

Once you take your money out of the bank, where do you put it? Keep it in cash under the mattress? Fine except..... ....if enough banks go under the gov't (via FDIC) is on the hook to make good on it. If they don't have the money, they'll just print more. Triggering inflation, and driving...

    Managing risk in futures

DOH! Another option -- use ETFs linked to commodities instead of the futures. So buy USO instead of oil futures. You lose the leverage but it's then impossible to lose more than you invested (on longs -- shorts could theoretically if the price went through the roof).

    Managing risk in futures

Stay away from options as a beginner. Once you know a lot more about them, you'll know enough to stay away from them. Risk management is difficult and expensive, although you can use futures options to limit futures risk (but again you're sacrificing profits for that risk management)...

How do you structure yourself financially for trading full time?

Only if it's a single member LLC. A multi-member LLC files a partnership 1065 return and then distributes gains/losses via schedule K-1 to all members. Do yourself a favor and buy green's book at the least, or better consult with green or a similar accountant. Don't take any advice you...

Advice About Sept 2nd GLOBEX Oct. Cattle Trade Not Busted

I use Openecry and Tradestation pit (via RJ OBrien) for pit trades using stops just because IB won't support stops. Sure you can write a simple app to submit a limit order to IB once the stop price is hit, but having the order sitting in the pit already should get you a better fill. Note...

That would be one of those holding patterns resulting in a drop to $98 - $102 like the previous poster said, correct? Sounds like a decline to me  You think "the boyz" won't make a run on those stops just below $100?

In the words of Tom Hanks in BIG, "I don't get it" I can understand natural gas being down, buy the rumor sell the news. I can understand crude being up, the storm still has some unknowns. Why the split though? Is the hurricane going to miss the natural gas pipelines but hit the oil rigs?

    Tradestation CME data subscription

I can't seem to subscribe to the CME full data delayed subscription in my TS account. The option is there, I pick it, but when I submit the form it says nothing was updated, and when I reload the form it shows nothing being selected. Is anyone else able to select the $1 delayed CME data...

From the lloyds link: A closure of the Henry Hub can wreak havoc on the natural gas futures market because as futures expire, there is no facility for physical gas delivery. But since the October front-month contract doesn't expire until the last week of September, Gustav's impact on the market...

Way to go tradestation: As a result of concerns relating to Hurricane Gustav, the CME Group has made a change to its trading hours for all GLOBEX-traded NYMEX energy products for Sunday, August 31. On that date, all NYMEX energy markets traded through GLOBEX will open at 2:30 PM ET, and will...

Free Historical Price Data for Futures

I think Norgate is based in Australia which I'm guessing means it's now overnight there (as a typical american I'm not as up on world time zones as I should be). I'd give it a few more hours before starting the denial of service revenge attacks :p

Yes full history means they provide the individual contracts (what pinnacle calls their deep history). So you can choose to export all contracts and get a file for each one: ES01H, ES01M, ES01U, ES01Z, ES02H, etc. Their tech support is also very responsive, and they've added several...
