Bond Trader Bets $10 Million That Volatility Revival Is Imminent

Yeah, although the PIMCO convexity replication trades had a programmatic flavour to them, IIRC... And yeah, it could be that there was an aged OTC leg to it, but I don't recall seeing anything like that. It still would make little sense.

I don't really know, tbh... I know some dealers have a way of downloading this, but I am pretty sure it's done through BBG, which offers such functionality.

You can use a Quikstrike tool to look at it here: http://www.cmegroup.com/tools-information/quikstrike/options-open-interest-profile-interest-rates.html

Anything is possible, but the straddle never traded in size like that in the first place... Who knows, maybe.

No, since if that were the case, we would have seen OI drop...

Bacon’s Moore Capital fires workers amid hedge-fund woes

He's a legend in the industry, but for pretty much the wrong reasons... Another example of a guy who had always been able to trade his reputation and career orders of magnitude better than the capital he was given.

Greg Coffey, the rainmaker? Now that's a funny joke...

Bond Trader Bets $10 Million That Volatility Revival Is Imminent

You can look at OTC trades on SDR (Swap Data Repository), where majority of such trades would normally be reported (with some exceptions, due to certain jurisdictions not being subject to reporting requirements). And no, not knowing the flow certainly wouldn't hurt my process. Most of the...

The mkt gods did not bless our strangle buyer with good luck today...

How to evaluate efficient use of capital for each trade?

There are many ways to skin this particular cat, but first you need to make up your mind about your objectives and your constraints.

Bond Trader Bets $10 Million That Volatility Revival Is Imminent

It's a reasonably large standalone trade (at least I haven't been able to find any other legs possibly done against it in another mkt). It's a new position, rather than a cover, since OI jumped on both legs of the strangle. It's also quite short-dated. All this kinda pushes you to a...

Bond Trader Bets $10 Million That Volatility Revival Is Imminent

Nah, this was an actual large strangle trade... JPM bot 20k of it in the pit from 8 to 9 cents, maybe ran the balance for a bit, then sold 65k on block to the client. So it looks like it's a real trade, but that doesn't make it any less weird.

Warren Buffett Says America Is "So Rich" It Can Afford Single Payer

Yes, like I said, I respect your opinion, whether it's based on religious belief or anything else... I understand your arguments. I, like yourself, struggle with these issues, because they are complicated, difficult and fraught with emotion and pain. As I've said, god forbid I ever have to be...

Warren Buffett Says America Is "So Rich" It Can Afford Single Payer

Your arguments are reasonable and I certainly can agree with several of your points... The issue, however, is a really complicated one. In the US, Canada and the UK (probably others, too), the guiding principle for any doctor providing care to a child is based on the "best-interest standard"...

How to evaluate efficient use of capital for each trade?

Well, only you yourself can answer the question of what's more important... Point is that the choice you make in answering this question determines your interpretation of the term "risk". A measure of risk that you choose can go into the calculation which you perform to evaluate trades...

How to evaluate efficient use of capital for each trade?

Here's a simple question for you that may influence the choice of methodology... Do you care about the mark-to-mkt PNL of your trades or do you only care about the "terminal" PNL at expiry?

How to evaluate efficient use of capital for each trade?

I am not really sure where I have said anything wrong... Far be it from me to suggest that the basic measure I have suggested is the "right one". Ultimately, there is no right answer to these questions, since everyone has different constraints and different targets. Broadly, this rabbit hole...

How to evaluate efficient use of capital for each trade?

There isn't a single simple formula... It seems that what you want to do is dollar return per unit of margin per day. This might work for you, but, obviously, any such approach has all sorts of flaws.

Warren Buffett Says America Is "So Rich" It Can Afford Single Payer

Let me ask you a hypothetical question... I appreciate that, in a case where there is nothing to lose, an experimental treatment that has a non-zero chance of success is worthwhile, assuming that it costs nothing. As you suggest, it may be worth it just because it might increase our...
