There seemed to be enough liquidity until about 830 am New York. After that a reversal and covering till 12 noon. Then drift as usual. But gold closing on lows is significant.

You forgot about the dead guys. The ones who did and didn't go to college. They're not here to give their opinion either. Or trade successfully. :(

That should say handwringing. Damn spell checker. Look at how many students enter school, especially college with a sense of curiosity, then go on to lose most of it.

Schools teach answers. Observation of the world teaches questions. If you look, you can see that most people approach the markets seeking answers first. Just look at the preoccupation with what the people who run the Fed are going to say. By professionals as well. There's this constant unease...

"When I think back On a all the crap I learned in high school It's a wonder I can think at all. And though my lack of education hasn't hurt me none I can read the writing on the wall."--Paul Simon Kodachrome

Well it was a great experience. You misunderstand. I loved it. But it took me years to unlearn all of it. The point is, how much of what you learned was information, and how much of it was opinion? The correct answer is that most of it was opinion or theory. We don't really know very much. Once...

Marshall McLuhan talked about how the University system had its roots in the industrial revolution. It was designed like an industrial process. Think about it.

I just realized I didn't answer your question. Haha. It was thirty years ago. But things have gotten worse, not better. There's more groupthink now than ever before. And way more distraction.

I went to a four year liberal arts college on the Main Line of Philadelphia, majoring in Russian. I also took a lot of philosophy and economics. I loved the place and what I learned but I stand by my comments. It never really occurred to me until I read a comment by Linda Raschke about the same...

In school, you have to have the right answer, and failure is bad. Now tell me how that might affect your ability to scratch a trade, beat your stop, or just take a loss. Also, if you get the right answer consistently you're considered smart. One of the first things my mentor told me was that...

Everyone talks about how great a university education is, but they don't tell you the negative. You lose a lot of ability to think for yourself. There's very little direct experience. There's a man or a woman in the front of the room who influences how you think. You get graded on your ability...

Yes I have a rule on flags. If so it's short it suggests continuation. A flag that won't break given lots of chances is very suspect, usually means reversal. Here you do have higher lows. Despite lousy fundamentals, the bearish case seems suspect.

Gold going to close around or below 1340. Euro hourly looks pretty ominous. Looking at the short side for Monday, unless something changes. Managed to get out of today with my skin intact, but down 1 percent. Most of that from being sick. Was up good and gave it back. Just lost my discipline in...
