    Series 56 - LOL Thread

The reason for the new trader license was posted earlier, but in a nutshell: According to several regulatory circulars, the SEC required that traders at CBSX firms be registered, pass the Series 7, and take continuning education. The CBOE made a proposal, representing that CBSX firms'...

Is this is a good deal?

Some retail brokers will give you portfolio margin (6.67 to 1) with 100k. Regarding prop firms, you cannot get "insurance" as you join them as a "member" and not as a "customer", so the funds are not subject to SIPC protection as with a retail account.

    RTFM/Team Trading Deposit

Correction: you posted the account was with "RTFM capital" so I'm not sure if they got refunds, as the procedure applies for VCM/Team Trading/Team Trading Extreme.

Prop firm deposit 10-30k 100% payout?

It seems more difficult than going directional and hedging with options, as with "many pairs" you'd have to not only game the appropriate size but also hold it for the correct amount of time in order to capture the delta. I'm sure it works for some, it's just not my style, but probably worth...

    RTFM/Team Trading Deposit

Where have you been, lol! Yes, there is a procedure if you were with Team Trading. Velez began sending independent account refund checks since Dec 2010. Many have received their risk deposits or applied their credits for services, although others have not and are still waiting for their...

Prop firm deposit 10-30k 100% payout?

Yes, it's off topic, but still related to prop firms. There are several offshore firms that don't require the exam: Broad Street International, Nevis Trading, and Suretrader, to name a few. Of course, always conduct your own due diligence! There are also warnings posted about Element...

Prop firm deposit 10-30k 100% payout?

You're right, but hard stops can't prevent gap risk on overnights.

Prop firm deposit 10-30k 100% payout?

Don, Most stocks trade in synch, and a pairs trade (example: KO/PEP) doesn't work in this market since both are trading down. Inverse ETFs have gap risk and are designed for daytrading only. So just curious on how a trader holds 30x their capital overnight "hedged of course" without...

anyway around the 1 year lock up?

Being "labeled a professional" just means you're a member of an exchange and thus paying higher fees for data. The registered firms that don't have the 1 year "lock up" require the Series 7, so either way a license is now required if you're based in the U.S.

    movies on trading

The film "Margin Call" was decent. It's available via Amazon streaming, or perhaps Redbox has it. Definitely worth watching. http://www.amazon.com/Margin-Call/dp/B005UT29Z0/ref=sr_1_1?s=instant-video&ie=UTF8&qid=1321904842&sr=1-1

Black Friday PC Deals (Help Me Choose)

Be sure the video card that comes with whatever deal you find can accept dual monitors, or you'll end up having to buy a separate video card. If you're building a trading computer, it's unlikely that the ads on Black Friday at retail stores are going to be tailored specifically for a trader...

    ECHOtrade

I asked the CBOE directly regarding caps on payouts, and although there is no current requirement for CBSX firms to lower their payout, they only said that it's "currently under review by the SEC and FINRA." Here is the CBOE circular that provides the notice...

    ECHOtrade

These are not standard with CBSX props, so they can be viewed as a "benefit." * access to payout of profits twice per week * no one year "lock up" of capital There is a difference, however, as going "pro" will require a Series 7 whereas with a CBSX firm, you take the Series 56.

    Series 56 - LOL Thread

From your earlier post... By that logic, anyone who went to medical school 30 years ago can tell a resident, "if you feel the boards were difficult, then you "should not be a doctor", lol! You're entitled to your opinion, to each his own.

Market order vs. Limit order for scalping

I don't trade futures, but for equities, using limits help when you're either gaming support/resistance intraday and you stack orders around those levels, or when you have a pre-established target for entry/exit.

Congressman insider trades on news directly from Bernanke

60 minutes aired a piece on November 13th about Congress and "insider trading"...oh, and it's all legal, IF you're in congress! http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18560_162-57323527/congress-trading-stock-on-inside-information/?tag=contentMain;cbsCarousel

    lowest monthly cost

The thing is once you join a prop firm you are considered a "professional" so the exchanges get to charge you more in fees for data. If you want free software and 100% payout, retail is the way to go.

    General Motors

Yes, some things never change. Just a correction: C reverse split 10 for 1, so the stock is actually $2.70 cents pre-split, a drop of OVER 90% of its value from the 52 week high. The airline stocks are no different, they just file bankruptcy and then relist the stock later, yet STILL can't...

    Chimera or WTS?

Sure, it's part of doing proper due diligence before joining a prop. However, some focus reports make the distinction, and others don't. Don, rest assured, based on 2010, you've set the bar quite high for the competition in 2011, for both Class A and B capital. I guess longevity has its...
