    Trader Tax

You may have stumbled on a great alternative for someone to suggest to Pelosi, DeFazio, et al. If the trader tax is to discourage speculative activity (i.e. "gambling"), why don't they tax the hell out of casino gambling and lottery tickets??? - - the amounts PLAYED, not just the winnings...

Pre-market volume spikes / Quotetracker charts

It seems to be hit or miss. Some mornings I do the backfill and all the overnight stuff looks fine. Lately though, almost every morning it's f*'d up. No worries, I know how to fix it now, thanks to Jerry at QT.

Pre-market volume spikes / Quotetracker charts

Thanks. I was told by Jerry at QT that it's just bad data, and the fix is to delete the volume spikes in the Raw data window. I still don't understand how such ridiculous numbers could show up in time and sales after hours (or any time), but I guess it doesn't matter. Anyway, QT ...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

It seems pretty clear the biggest risk of this thing passing in the U.S. is if it catches on globally.

Pre-market volume spikes / Quotetracker charts

I've been getting messed up QT volume charts on backfilling in pre-market. Here is a Quotetracker (using IB feed) volume chart of ES from last night @ 18:17. There is apparently a volume spike of 2 million, followed moments later by -2 million volume .... What is this?? - Thanks.

    .02% for futures, .25% on stocks/ETFs.

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

We have to remember that this tax discriminates not against short-term trading per se, but against ALL small capital gains AND LOSSES across the board. Say I invested a 100k IRA in SPY or an index mutual fund in mid-2003 ... 1k shares of SPY @ 100.00. I hold it like a good little investor...

    Trading ES or YM

I trade both ES and YM. As far as their comparative volatility, I see little difference between the two. Just compare the 15min charts of ES and YM for any given day, and you'll see they're almost identical. The smaller tick size of YM can facilitate more precise entries and exits, which is...

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

Probably similar to what kept me in trade #2 on Friday (minus the "women's intuition" part). Actually, the Thursday and Friday opening setups/outcomes were fairly similar. Thanks for the answer. Good for you on the disciplne in not taking the quick ticks AND in honoring your B/E stops...

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

Great week NoD ... congratulations! I was curious (once again :) ) ... were your B/E stops from yesterday generally quickly hit, or were they "re-set" stops after price moved a certain amount in your favor then came back to nick you out? If the former, I'm interested in what you saw that...

And make the transition quick, so you can stash some away before they destroy this whole game with that damn transaction tax. Great day for shorts ... I'm sure NoD is KILLING it right now. :)

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Exactly. I think they ought to make the tax even higher to cover jobs programs for all the newly unemployed people from the finance industry.

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

LOL Hmm, interesting, coming from you. A day or so ago there was a discussion about averaging in, and I got the impression you had concluded "all in" was best for you. (???) Anyway, no matter. By the way I noticed your trade today was basically a fade of the ORB trade .... hope you...

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

Congratulations on the nice trade. 3-min chart, 5-min chart ... hey, it worked out either way, right? Surprised you took 14 ticks heat on 2 cars though ... quite a change from your former stated pain threshold. :) I took a look at your Keltners on this trade ... have you ever considered a...

    trading the emini snp.

The ES is like any other market ... you have to study it day in and day out for a long time to get a sense of its quirks and habits. Not that after such a learning period you'll ALWAYS know what's going on, but if you study it diligently and with purpose (i.e., not just passively watching it and...

Nice! .... and thanks for the annotated chart. Any special reason why a 3-min chart for stocks? ... and you don't find the 3-min useful for futures?

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

I guess each trader has to find what works best for her own style. On the topics of fading and scaling in, my philosophy is that there is a time and place for both, just like every other tool, if used carefully. Reading the market for when it's a good time for fading/scaling is an everyday...
