Trading only career that doesn't require people?

Did you just walk into the govt agency and start programming or: Did you have to interview for the position with someone (maybe many people)? Did you have someone give you an assignment? (and what happens if you told them you didn't want to do that, but wanted to do something else?) Do you...

Trading only career that doesn't require people?

Hmmm... we may have a winner here. I don't see any people interaction required. But, are there any players that consistentently make money doing it? It's gotta be something where you can actually make a living. I really don't know enough about it to say, myself.

Trading only career that doesn't require people?

At first blush, it sounds like you might have a winner here. Initially, it looks like something that would not require dependency on people (you don't depend on the dealer - they're just an interface that won't affect your game one way or another). But, if you're really good, they won't let you...

Trading only career that doesn't require people?

Ah yes, but it all came down to your fence being very crucial to your whole enterprise. He's the one that, in the end, determined how much you received for your efforts. And, I doubt it's as easy to find another fence you can trust as it is to find another broker. I still maintain my position.

Trading only career that doesn't require people?

Institutional traders are in a totally different world. They have to deal with other people in a big way. They have bosses to report to. They have to make their numbers look good for the financial rags if they are at that level. They have to look good to their bosses to keep their jobs...

Trading only career that doesn't require people?

There is no doubt about this. Very much social phenomena. I wonder who social statiticians would do in this job. But that's social in the overall group sense. You don't depend on anyone specific, just the beast as a whole.

Trading only career that doesn't require people?

There ya go! Not having to rely and others... live and die by your own accomplishments and failures. It's not a game for those that put the blame elsewhere. That's the problem with "team player" kind of jobs... if you're good, a lot of your effort is spent pulling the lesser players along...

Trading only career that doesn't require people?

But don't you have to put people in the machines? Deal with their fears and apprehensions? And what if a mistake is made? Nothing illegal, just a mistake. Then you might have a lawsuit. And only people bring lawsuits. No one brings lawsuits against traders... brokers, trading trainers...

Trading only career that doesn't require people?

True, but you're not CONVINCING them to take the other side. If you do it by phone, but I'm talking purely electronic in today's age. I know that a lot of currency trading at the big level is done over the phone where they sometimes have to convince the other side, but I'm talking about where...

Trading only career that doesn't require people?

After having done time in retail, marketing, corporate, etc. I believe that trading is the only career where you don't have to deal with people or convince them to sell your product. All your trades are executed electronically. You put your bid or offer out there or take someone else's, but...

Satellite? Does it work well for trading?

A lot of that is stuff from grade school geometry and earth science and there's no guarantee of it's authenticity, but you get the idea. Cash

Satellite? Does it work well for trading?

I think geosynchonous orbit is 26,000 miles. Then let's add a few thousand miles for triangulation and round up to 30,000 miles. They send the data up to the bird and then it's sent down to you. That's 60,000 miles total. Speed of transmission is 186,000 miles/second. So, 1/3 of a second...

Satellite? Does it work well for trading?

I don't think people realize that dial-up service CAN be adequate for trading. Remember, when numbers like 56K, 128K, 800K, 1.4M are thrown around, this is not really SPEED, it's BANDWIDTH and means how much data you can get down the line in a second. ALL data moves around 186,000...

Satellite? Does it work well for trading?

Be careful with shotgun technology. It's good for webpages, but not streaming quotes as it splits the signal into two paths that each go their own way. Your streaming quotes need one path. You may want to check on multilink connections as they bind into one path. This thread has more info on...

Satellite? Does it work well for trading?

Depends on your style. Not good for scalpers... you're better off with dial-up and don't try to watch the whole market. There's an inherent lag in satellite. It's generally 1/2 sec to 3/4 sec each way. That means that if you're trading against someone on DSL/Cable, and you both react as...

    Are you @#!$&*@! kidding me?

It looks to me it's a "per device" fee, so if Merril is paying only $75/mo, they are pushing all 1 billion of those shares through one terminal or PC:eek:
