Shorting stocks going ex-dividend – do short sellers systematically get screwed?

Another point is the buyer of your short is not the recipient. When you short, you borrow the stock. Your paying the dividend to whoever you borrowed it from.

Swing or take a fixed risk/reward, there must be more possibilities

Backtest/ forward test to see what makes more sense for efficiency/your risk tolerance. Personably I have two swing trade setups that kind of replicate what you have going on. The my first target is equal distance from my entry to my stop( 1R ). My stops are discretionary. Ideally I want to...

    NxCore is no longer offered

Interesting. From my understanding of listening to Eric Hundsader on chatwithtraders( the owner of Nanex, his partnership with DTN involved just using their network and data centres. Nanex gathered and managed the data, the API, etc. DTN’s job was to just deal with billing and getting the...

    Any recommended youtube trading videos?

Marketlifetrading.com Course is free. I haven’t done the new course as he re did it all/still adding modules. It added a lot to the way I view markets and looked for ideas to backtest. Chatwithtraders podcast is another one that lets me think about new areas of trading I can add to my own...

what do discount brokerage firms think about Robinhood?

I saw an interview a year ago CNBC with them. This was before they offered margin accounts, but they said most their income came from interest they made on clients cash balances. They also stated the current account size average was 1000$. Sounded like a crazy business model to me and didn’t...

How Do Forcasters Never Get It Wrong? Call a 40% Chance

Personally I find no usefulness in forecasting. Trade entries are easy, exits and trade management are the hard part. ( position size, how long to hold, profit target, add or take off size, when to get out when you know your wrong, etc)

Can I hear about your worst trades ever?? Everyone will freely talk about their best ones...

Amaya( now called The Stars Group which is pokerstars and it’s sub companies). Bought it on a pullback, I didn’t notice earnings were coming up and it dropped 30 percent or so on open. I remember being at work with crap cellphone reception trying to close it. Think at the time it set me back...

    Flag pattern

One of my many pullback variations I swing trade on the daily time frame. Key to a good setup is a good thrust up with volatility contraction at the new swing highs. I usually enter at the 4th/5th bar or consolidation. Stop is usually wider then other pullbacks as when volatility contracts, it...

Can IB use "Market Order" to trade outside "Regular Trading Hours"?

Marketable limit order will work, just not a market order. Market orders are like writing a blank cheque. Atleast with a marketable limit order you can set some boundaries to protect yourself from vanishing liquidity.

Can IB use "Market Order" to trade outside "Regular Trading Hours"?

This wouldn’t be a IB thing but an exchange thing. They only accept certain order types in after market.

Explain to me why I can only trade in 1 cent increments...Schwab and Fidelity

Google “ HFT” “ Price Improvement” “Sub Penny Increments”. Basically your broker is required to get you the NBBO. Most brokers if their direct access will have an option to submit to a specific exchange or “smart routing” which will include dark pools and other ATS’s. So market making firm is...

can i still buy and sell call options if the volume and open interests are 0

As long as theirs a bid and ask for it you can buy it or sell it. ( meaning someone’s willing to make the trade) Options are contracts, volume is how many contracts changed hands, and open interest is how many contracts are out there. Just be weary with 0 volume and 0 open interest as if you...

How often do you rebalance ?

I’ve been eyeing this book myself. Perhaps it might have some relevance. Portfolio management is something I lack in for sure. I keep my investments separate from trading but my investments are purely just indexing and keep thinking I can probably do a bit better with a bit of work and...

screengrabs for some strategies i have developed.

I've never used Tradestation but I was assuming theirs probably some setting like you mentioned. You really need to understand how whatever backtester your using works. For instance I use Amibroker I generally keep my orders to the open/close as I can reference which came first and delay my...

    Keltner Channels

I use it myself more of a way to measure volatility, and to help filter bad setups(when moves have gone parabolic). Do some test yourself and see what you come up with. https://adamhgrimes.com/library/indicators/keltner-statistics/ His book go me into using Keltner Channels. He puts some nice...
