IB TWS does not update volume well in real time charts

When in QG or QM (gas and oil nymex), when watching real time (updates every 1 second) I notice the most recent trade volume (few minutes) always appears sparse. When I change the chart duration and force update, everything appears filled out and correct. Any ideas? This is v860.

nat gas to 8.00 in 2 weeks

hah. right after i made that post, by the way, gas dropped about .15 on no connection with oil. :) any idea what triggered that selloff? volume was large. i'm assuming a weather report.

nat gas to 8.00 in 2 weeks

i call it. we're going to have several periods of low contributions or even net withdrawls to nat gas reserves, and one gulf/carrib hurricane in development will send gas up. I think we'd be up to 7.40 today (at 7.20 right now) on sep, but oil tanked a buck in the morning session. if oil...

    Natural Gas going to 0?

nice trade. we could just be getting started on a gas runup though, with the latest EIA report and heat.

Jim Rogers: Oil will hit $100

one of the most convincing full featured analysis I've seen on oil: http://www.321energy.com/editorials/hamilton/hamilton072206.html The only factor he doesn't deal with is increased price and possible broken price discovery mechanism stimulated by speculation and hedge funds during the...

what keeps different months in sync at low volume?

ie. watch overnight natural gas -- very low volume -- only a few contracts here and there, but all of the near due months are generally in sync with the same amplitude of movement. What explains this? Does arb even work at such low volume and large spreads?

    index futures - pricing

its makes sense now... money payed from winners just goes to losers, and the exchange 'enforces' that agreement. So if the market is plummetting to 0, sellers of futures contracts have a hard time getting fair value if there are no bidders, correct? ps - edited message - made a post...

    index futures - pricing

that doesn't make any sense to-- arbing couldn't work if there's no absolute guarantee that the futures are somehow backed by something.

nat gas trading - a lost cause?

buy a few hundred contracts and drive the price of this thing up, ok. :)

    index futures - pricing

newbie questions: since buyer and seller trade a future, how is the future ACTUALLY mapped to the respective index? I'm looking for inner workings, but not a referral to a book - I just want a basic explanation, or a confirmation if my understanding is correct. Thanks. ie: 1) ES futures...

nat gas trading - a lost cause?

Another story to further explain my awe over lack of any success with this contract: Last week, I was following the EIA reports concerning inventories. Despite my gut saying to buy after the reports said inventories were down, I watched the price fall on this thing, so after it appeared there...

nat gas trading - a lost cause?

i've been doing pretty well generally lately with most of my trading - I have been developing some trading rules for myself, and am having success. But I can't seem to stay away from the natural gas futures - and every time I touch them, I get burned. Today, for example, I went long on the...

How to profit from the Japanese new(?) interest raste clycle

btw, look on front page of bloomberg.com. there is a video of Weinberg of high frequency -- his opinion maintaining that the japanese bond market already priced in the rate hike, and to expect little movement as a result of it going forward. Even to the point it'll have little actual economic...

How to profit from the Japanese new(?) interest raste clycle

how about buying puts on ewj -- the nikkei is bound to have some nervousness from pressure of possible (worldwide) economic slowdown ?

What can Kill the Oil and Gold Bull?

    1) European gas prices are a reflection of higher taxes for the most part. I never implied that we -should- pay just as Europeans, or just as Chinese (which have subsidized gas), or anyone else. 2) rational is a relative term. I think the california housing market's boom seemed fiscally...

So you're thinking of longing oil?

i agree once this conflict dissolves could be a good shorting opportunity, but set your stops tight because a new conflict is likely around the corner.... hurricane, chavez, a new middle east one. i wonder if the winter might be a better time for shorting.

What can Kill the Oil and Gold Bull?

sorry, but this american-centric right to oil and belief that oil is a birth right is part of the problem, and I disagree. further, there is nothing immoral about a market (even if price discovery is partially broken) doing what it does. I could say human consumption of all meat, insisted...

oil and nat gas future options on IB

haven't bothered calling IB - but figured someone here knows the deal before I did. I've traded QG and QM, but no options are available on those contracts. Also, nymex full size nat gas (ng) and oil (cl) options contracts do exist, just not on IB. Wondering if access to these products needs...
