    small lots with ib

I do have to say though that I've never tried anything as low as 5 shares or 1 share. (Maybe that Berkshire Hathaway I bought - just kidding). But, again, I've done scores of trades between 40 and 70 shares in order to achieve diversification. Note: I don't believe this will work for any...

    small lots with ib

I trade odd lots very often w/ IB, because I have a smallish IRA account with them. It generally works very well for me but there are times when when it takes quite a while to get a fill but this is almost always on low volume stocks. With an odd lot you're definitely not high priority...

    Are share prices random?

From what I've read there are about 10,000 professional and institutional traders. And of course their actions dominate the mkts. Each of them have different strategies and philosophies, but there are groups of them that lean toward momentum investing, fundamentals, support and resistance...

    German Exchange

Thanks! Europe is confusing to a newbie. I looked up DCX on Yahoo and found it traded on about 10 exchanges and struggled to find even the smallest bit of information about any of them. International equity investing has some definite obstacles to overcome...

Forgive my ignorance but what is the XETRA exchange and where is it located?

Anybody know how I can get a ticker list of all stocks on the German exchange? Can't quite find it anywhere. Thanks.

Is The US Government proppingup the US markets?

I remember that link, but I still find it hard to believe that they could get involved with equities w/o anyone knowing about it. But, hey, nothing about the govt surprises me any more. Plus, the way I look at it - they're just one more institutional player that would have only limited ability...

Is The US Government proppingup the US markets?

Can't imagine how they'd do it w/o a "Deep Throat" somewhere finding out...

Is The US Government proppingup the US markets?

All I can say is that if they're proping up the mkt, they're doing a lousy job! :D The only institution that can "prop up the mkt" is the Fed and they have limited ability to do so. Not sure what you're thinking of here...

    Philly Fed Index

Yahoo Finance posted another one of its invaluable comments on the markets today: "It appears the weaker-than-expected Philly Fed Index has taken the steam out of the market..." But that did get me to wondering: what in the heck is the "Philly Fed Index" and where can I find it and what does...

    Inexpensive

Actually, I'm local admin on my box. I could probably just change the secure socket port and get it to work. But this is an anal financial institution where I could get in pretty serious trouble for messing with it. I appreciate the tip, but $1 commissions aren't worth my job...

    Inexpensive

My work uses a proxy server and TWS will not work with it nor do they have any work-around. I'm already signing up with Brown. My brother-in-law has had good luck with them and they're only $5/trade which beats both Ameritrade and Scotrade.

    Inexpensive

Thanks for the info on Scotrade. I am debating between them, Ameritrade and Brown & Co. (I don't think I can afford the other.) I'm a swing trader so that's good to know.

    Inexpensive

Are there any decent retail brokers with order pricing somewhere in between IB and say Scott/Ameritrade? (I can't use IB any more and I was hoping to find someone with lower commissions than Scott and Ameritrade.

    IB - Proxy Server Woes

I've used IB's basic TWS at my work for months now and love it. However, we just got moved to the corporate headquarters where they have a proxy server for all internet connections. Now TWS does not work - I cannot even load it. The help desk at IB said I was hosed because TWS used a secured...

Does anyone know where there's any information already out there on the correlation between U.S. equity mkts and various foreign equity markets? Thanks.
