Can an average guy make a living at trading?

PlumLazy, You have the wrong handle. The time, effort and thought that went into writing that post was anything but plumlazy. :) Natalie

Is NQ liquid enough to scalp 10 contracts ?

If you are setting a limit buy below the current price, and the bid only drops down to your price, then there is a chance not all your contracts will be filled, or even not any. If the price goes on down through before coming back up, then you will be filled, but not necessarily in 1 go. If...

    Straight up tomorrow

I agree - Trade what you see, not what you think. Prejudging where the market is going to go is little more than betting and usually fatal. (where the account is concerned) :) Natalie

Can an average guy make a living at trading?

Not wanting to put you off, but if you even start to understand just how incredibly difficult trading can be, how much you need to learn, and the incredible amount of hard work you will need to put in, then you are 1% of the way towards being able to make it as a trader of any description...

Ok - I'm corrected that there was indeed some news, but it was an unscheduled news event. Not the same as the news spikes caused by say NAPM for example or interest rates or some such thing which are scheduled events happening at an expected time. That's really the point I'm making about...

to those that bought the spike today

Yes- good point that news spikes and especialy announcements by fed etc. can be traded, but they are expected in advance by any trader who takes the trouble to check the announcements times pre-open. They are very often playable because you are prepared and ready and expecting something - you...

Yeah. I'd been trading it all day, (I'm in the UK) and it had set itself up for a quick short anyway, I was looking for the exit ahead of the NY open, and wham! - 200 points straight off the price in almost no time at all. Like yesterday I just sat there stunned thinking OMG WHY? Like...

I remember sitting in front of my machine that day trading FTSE as it went into meltdown suddenly and without warning. I learned a lesson about meltdown that day i.e. not to try and buy into a bounce. 600 points on YM with no pause on the way looked awfully similar for a short while... Natalie

Wow Gordon, Your couple of minutes must have been an awful lot longer than mine. Either that or you think and act about 30 times faster than I do. By the time I'd finished thinking OMG what's going on and managed to get to the send button it was already well on the way back up again. And you...

I was still short anyway and just looking to close out when it burst down more. - pure fluke. I always keep a market order handy for such occasions ready to just hit send for a quick exit. Once it bounced it went up very fast and a case of close eyes and click send and see what you get. No limit...
