question from an idiot: if the company pays the dividend, that money is now in the hands of the investor. if the investor uses that money to "turn around and with those dividends buy the company's shares on the market", another investor gets the proceeds of that transaction, not the company...

lol... i can understand that! tipping simply isn't something that's part of the culture in australia (dont' know about canada). when i was living in vegas, one of the toughest habits to break was not leaving tips. and not only cos i wasn't used to doing it... i totally can't stand leaving...

er, no dude. it's not misleading at all. the question was what was your % return. if you start with X and turn it into 2X, your return was 100% no matter what you did to get it.
