    Shorting US bonds

As per latest TIC data, again "Carribean Banks" absorbed new debt issuance and the (slight) selling of US bonds by Japan and China during since last report. They (Carribean funds) are now #3 holder of US debt in the world.

How good is the Windows XP built-in firewall?

FORGET Norton and McAfee firewalls. DON'T USE IT. Either ZoneAlarm or Sygate is enough and MUCH MUCH BETTER. You mention "older Windows software" but don't specify WHICH. If you have an older Win98 box with slower CPU (Pentium-II) and RAM (96-128MB), then you need an older version of...

    IB Charting.

Tradestation is a COMPLETELY different game. It's an integrated charting, backtesting and autoexecution platform with its own language (which has been around for over 10yr and has a big following) and it's light years far ahead of anything that can be realistically achieved as TWS-charting-addon...

    IB Charting.

I have to agree with these points 100%. Charting is very different business and there are already DOZENS of charting applications which work with IB API, from the very simple to the very sophisticated (e.g. Ensign) I'd be very concerned if charting functionality might affect the stability...

    Transact Futures + Trade Maven

On issues of APIs, I would be most interested if Transact (or Dorman etc) would support some of the better 3rd party order mgmt apps like Ninja or Button. (Ninja supports PATS API and TWS API afaik. Button only TWS API sofar, but one can still hope :-)

    Trading with Market Profile

guy, perhaps you should start a new thread in the Journals section (which is meant exactly for this purpose): http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=29 Just an idea.

    Dollar bears will be crushed

"Dollar bears will be crushed" (I read it in some ET thread a few days ago). "Buffet will lose his shirt going against Bush". I read a lot of these "patriotic" comments (and maybe much more of those have been written by neo-con [neo-fascist] people waving flags, who I try to add to my ignore...

eCBOT (YM) stops, who can view them?

Also, looking at the spread of Dow futures vs cash, you can see that at that point it was the highest of the day (10pt diff) green/red bars = spread of futures vs cash blue bars = YM M5

eCBOT (YM) stops, who can view them?

For what it's worth: Stopped 10317 (which was also the High Of Day in YM, ES made higher highs around EOD) Just to clarify again, I'm not taking dozens of trades per day (out of which some would obviously get stopped at an extreme simply by chance). E.g. yesterday 11-May-05 there were 3...

    Buffet and Dollar short

http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=744491#post744491 Read the last 2 posts (fwd'ed stuff). Start with the letter by Mr Neely, Research Officer of St.Louis Fed, refuting the points that Bejing can dictate US policy. Mr Neely's argument basically says: "So what if China...

    Buffet and Dollar short

Apparently Buffet feels that he has a fiduciary responsibility to protect the buying power of his shareholders, i.e. aim at POSITIVE REAL RETURNS. Here is how the 2003-2004 "rally" of SP500 looks in "dollar-index" denomination (a basket of different currencies). If we denominated the same...

Where can I buy Gold bars?

It's not about gold-bars, but about the dollar. But since I posted the original stuff in this thread, let me also add the comments by Tom Yarnall, about the points made by Mr.Neely of St.Louis Fed: PS: Not that any of this "funnymental" stuff has much relevance when you have...

Managed Futures Index down almost 10 % -- horrible April again

I understand your concerns and in such case only thing you can do is quantitative analysis, to see if the underlying premise you've built upon is persisting. Markets DEFINATELY change over time, and strategies which worked for decades, stopped working. This change has happened gradually: I'd say...

Where can I buy Gold bars?

I think that many people choose to disregard the kind of "event risk" which is associated with holding USD denominated assets right now. It seems that for some the mentality is "so what if USD lost another -50% of its value? Some tourists would cancel their trips abroad" (quoted from letter...

eCBOT (YM) stops, who can view them?

Actually, I didn't mention it sofar, but I've started doing this type of side-by-side "testing". It'll take some time to create a meaningful sample. I understand what you imply and obviously the concern that the "Chinese wall" between a brokerage and its prop operation isn't so inpenetratable...

eCBOT (YM) stops, who can view them?

While I'm posting charts, here's one chart for the trade i mentioned in a previous post: stopped out of long at 10213 (swing low tick of the next few hours)

eCBOT (YM) stops, who can view them?

In both cases the "hard" stop of 15-25 ticks (posted at IB's servers since as we know eCBOT has no native stops) was triggered to the very tick. The trade size was 8-10 contracts (which I would think is chump change in these markets). Assuming some kind of normal distribution of "noise"...

eCBOT (YM) stops, who can view them?

A few days ago, stopped 10198 (it just traded there for a split second, just enough to trigger my IB stop and my fill was 10197)
