    Assignment (newbie)

Or, if you are not bullish anymore and you don't want the stock, sell a Nov 25 call for 1.45 and hope it gets called at Nov expiration. You can also sell the long 25 put for an extra .50, or keep it for downside protection. I see that the Nov 30 P has zero open interest. You must have had the...

Thanks. I didn't realize how low it was going while waiting for my order to fill. It was all over the 430-420 range today.

Can any oil market experts confirm these factoids?

Maybe you already did drop a hit of acid. I wasn't trying to make a connection between the oil market and anything. I was trying to make a connection between lower gasoline prices in the US and the election in three weeks. Gas prices have fallen maybe 25% off their highs from this past summer...

Can any oil market experts confirm these factoids?

I already corrected myself. Paulsen replaced John Snow. It wasn't that long ago. Tony Snow is the press secy. I guess conspiracry theories about deals between the Bush administration (or any other for that matter) and private corporations are pretty farfetched. I mean, just look at the...

    Jimbo's Option Spread Journal

Would you do an IC on GOOG? Oct 410/420/430/440 is selling for 7.70. Max loss 2.30. I recall when they reported the day before July expiration. It was a non-event. ATM straddles were selling for about $30 on Thursday, went to 0 by the EOD on Friday.

Does anyone here post on the Yahoo mesg boards?

I haven't been there much since a) they dehanced the format and b) every stock board seems to have been taken over by shorties throwing up whatever BS they can find, over and over again. I used to post on the INTC board a few years ago, just to provoke the rightwing nutjobs

Can any oil market experts confirm these factoids?

Sorry, got my Snowjobs screwed up. He replaced Snow. I know gasoline usually falls after Labor Day, but around here it's about 25% and still falling. I don't recall it dropping that much in the past. I didn't mean to imply that OIL prices were manipulated (except for not refilling the...

Can any oil market experts confirm these factoids?

    - The "crack price" (difference between raw oil and refined product) is at historic lows, barely covering the cost of recovery. - DOE is not currently replacing SPR, even though it is below normal level - Goldman Sucks recently reduced weighting of gasoline in its commodity index from 7.3%...

Newbie Question: Married Puts aka Covered Puts

OK, now to totally confuse you, I found the original reference I posted first. This is from "New Insights on Covered Call Writing" by Lehman and McMillan, appendix C. I'll just summarize: For OTM covered calls - no effect. For "qualified ITM calls" - the holding period is suspended while the...

Newbie Question: Married Puts aka Covered Puts

This excerpt from this site would seem to say the opposite of what I thought: if you write (grant) a call or a put, do not include the amount you receive for writing it in your income at the time of receipt. Carry it in a deferred account until: 1. Your obligation expires, 2. You...

Newbie Question: Married Puts aka Covered Puts

So is a long OTM call a rational thing to do if you want to write calls for income? The "conventional wisdom" that I've seen says you should buy ATM or DITM LEAPS and do calendars or diagonals. Writing naked calls would be OK except for that pesky upside problem. Wouldn't an OTM long call cover...
