IB TWS freezing on Mac OSx

I've used TWS for years on Windows. I have also used it for years on a Mac. The OS X version is at least as stable as the Windows version, personally I would even say it is more stable. However, BOTH are not immune to problems. If the problem would occur on a windows machine - what would...

Unfortunately no. What they mean by 'day-to-day transactions' are wires, credit card payments and so on...

Give him some time, his long call was also a bit early. But in the end, it was a great trade. Just look at the market action. Looks quite ugly now.

IB TWS freezing on Mac OSx

Never experienced anything like this. Things you can try: - Delete TWS completely and re-install it - Remove background programs: see system preferences > users and groups > login items; try to remove them one by one to find out if one of them causes this behavior. - Update Java - there...

Why I Don't Believe in TA

The paper is online: http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1181367 See page 8 ff. 'Trading Rule Specifications': 'We apply 5,806 of the technical trading rules suggested by Sullivan, Timmermann, and White (1999). Sullivan, Timmermann, and White (1999) test in excess of...

Why I Don't Believe in TA

It's no error. It just the way of naming things in these academic papers. Each system and parameter set = different (set of) rules. I have seen many papers in which the authors applied the same kind of logic.

Why I Don't Believe in TA

As far as I remember, they didn't test '5000 trading rules' but instead a few very basic trading systems (like moving average crossovers) with dozens or hundreds of parameter sets for each system. The 5000 number is simply the number of all the variations tested. However, IMHO their...

Interesting. While I still have no real clue what the price drivers are, from what I am seeing here, I think surf will be right again. ;-)

Why I Don't Believe in TA

Both classic TA believers ('everything is in the price') and Surf ('prices are only an effect') are wrong. Or, to be more specific: Their assumptions are incomplete. Because prices are cause AND effect. If one believes that they are only cause OR only effect, he is missing half of the...

    Surf's Special Situation Journal

I would guess that the price driver index ist calculated by adding the directions (-x for down, +x for up, where x may vary with importance of the index component; an there can be, of course an inverse relationship) of select other markets and intermarket relationships... am I right?

Surf, you are talking about 1 1/2 months of trading here. While these were very nice trades, that's hardly statistically significant.

I still don't get it why you guys are arguing over what works in trading and what not. A successful trader should be thankful for every trader out there with a non-working approach to trading. :D

This was a great trade. Congratulations! And I think you are right about the increasingly bearish situation. However, my price drivers are maybe a little different from yours. ;-)

    Are charts completely arbitrary ?

Think about the history of candlesticks charts... and when they came up with them in 17th century Japan. Candlesticks patterns rest on one basic premise: That the open and close of a candle is 'special' in some way or another. When the Japanese used daily charts, the open and close were...

Bought after dip to short term support with stop well below support level - surf, you are not looking at charts, are you? :D (Don't get me wrong. This is not the way I trade - however, it would be a classic 'TA trade'...)
